Ours starts at 6pm and goes until 10.30pm (as the venue isn't allowed outside music after that, but our DJ will carry on with an ipod playlist inside :) )
Our ceremony starts at 4pm so we wanted to get straight to the reception and start asap

bone of contention for me, my MIL 2b INSISTS we cant start the evening until 7.30pm (as this is when she had HER birthday party start at the same venue we ended up stuck with)
I want it to start at 6, wedding is 4pm, and the idea was cut out the need for food in between, meaning people (including me a diabetic) are going from 2.30pm ish to 8 pm with nothing to eat !

    Hi all,

Some of the questions asked above already have answers. Please have a look at my 'Words Of Advice Before Booking A DJ' thread, as it explains what to look for when booking a DJ.

Regarding what time to start, that's really down to you, however, if you're having your Wedding Breakfast in the same room as the evening reception, the staff will need to turn the room around once you've finished eating. This is when the DJ normally goes in the room to set up.

So, for example, if your meal is at 3:00pm, allow about 2 hours (Meal, speeches etc) then it'll take about another hour for the room turn-around and for the DJ to set up, so that makes it 6:00pm.

On most occasions, it's background music until the first dance, as it gives your guests chance to say hello and get a drink, then your first dance kicks off the evening! No-one dances as soon as they arrive, as they all want to do is talk and 'settle in'.

    I hope this helps,

    Scott.

Our DJ chose the times what he usually does. At the time we booked him, didn't have a ceremony time yet but they will be used to it as its what they do. Best have a chat with venue and DJ about it.
