My H2B has been looking at quotes for DJs, and the first one that we've had back is £550 for a package that includes MCing (which we don't need), and background music during the wedding breakfast, which we can sort ourselves. What have people found to be reasonable rates for DJs for evening dos? This one the £550 is the cheapest package he offers.

I think thats alot - we meet a few DJ's and amazed by their prices. Tell him what you want and see if he can do a package for you rather than one of his otherwise i would look elsewhere.
Our DJ is the venue's house DJ so slightly cheaper anyway but only £120 and thats for a 5 hour slot of music, i dont need anything during the day or during dinner or an MC so he fitted around what i wanted xxx

Wow so we should get it a lot cheaper. I might actually contact our reception venue, as they did say they have recommended people for things like DJing.

thats a very good suggestion Elinor... we originally looked at the recommended ones, then went for a band then changed our minds. I spent 50 min on phone to this recommended DJ, turns out he does a hell of a lot of work at the venue, is always first port of call for any type of event, not just weddings, knows the rooms well, the staff, etc..definitely a good choice to go with a recommendation.
If mention other prices you may be able to haggle the price down a bit. He knocked off the VAT and extra sunday charge for us. xx

Hi All,
Please read my thread regarding what you should look for when trying to book a DJ "Words Of Advice Before Booking A DJ..." I have 'bumped' it to make it easier to find.
For those of you who I have not yet spoken to or know who I am, I am a professional DJ specialising in the Wedding Industry. I wrote the thread to help you all out, so you know what's actually involved with running a DJ business and to help prevent any of you getting 'stung!'
When me and h2b were looking, we found prices ranged from £200 upwards. The one we've booked is £240, includes music from 7:30-midnight and a screen showing pictures of us on a slideshow xxx

Blimey that's a lot. We're paying £275 for our DJ.

That is expensive. We got outrageously high quotes too but found one through our reception venue for £275 for the night, from set up at 6pm to midnight. xx
