Quick question - does anyone know if it's normal for a wedding DJ to ask you to provide your 1st dance song and any must have or unusual songs to them on a USB stick on your wedding day? Seems a bit weird to me!
Others I've spoken to have just suggested providing a playlist prior to the day.
HELP!!!!

I would provide your DJ with a playlist before hand, they should have all of the songs anyway, all they have to do is make sure they bring it with them on the day. A USB stick seems a bit unusual for my liking, on your day he might forget to give it back, you might be too "happy" and forget to get it back from him, there are so many variables its best to stick with providing them with a list instead.
Find out who you are & do it on purpose!

Get a cheapo USB stick then if you forget no drama, but he shoukd provide you with all the songs really after all thats what youre paying for! Sounds like a way of him illegally building up his repertoire on the cheap!
And we lived happily ever after!

Weird! My DJ was telling me yday that he subscribes to some sort of music thingy whereby he gets all the music and videos in the world courtesy of whoever he is paying his subscription to. Like Valentina says, sounds like he is trying to build up his music on the sly as opposed to having it legally/legitimately. My DJ even said if we want some music during the wedding breakfast to let him now and he'd make us a CD...
But bring as backup! On CD and USB and... iphone/ipod!
And we lived happily ever after!

yeah sounds a bit unprofessional to me. I would of thought you would just give them a list of songs and go from there, like previously said what happens if this gets lost and un prepared :S xx
Can not wait until I marry the man of my DREAMS

I would stick with a list having to provide your own usb and music seems a little suspicious.

That's what I thought. We definitely want to provide a playlist including must have songs but have never heard of having to provide on a USB stick. I'd have thought that a professional DJ would already have the means to source any songs that they don't already have.
I think we may carry on looking for a while as I'm not entirely convinced by the information/communication. I emailed last night asking them to clarify and haven't heard back. I received instant responses back to the previous 2 messages sent last night.
Thanks everyone. I'm glad it's not just me who thinks this is a little odd xxx

ive never heard of this before - it does sound a little odd. i suppose if it is an unusual song then this might be asked - we had to do it for H2B's Nan & Gdad anniversary but it was just because it was an old song. maybe its just for backup just in case? x

Our DJ has given us an internet log on to his site, for us to add requests etc to

If you cant find it on itunes or Google play, then I'd think fair enough, but I assume you can?

As a precaution I am having my wedding song on a USB stick simply because when my mum got married even though she stated she wanted 'hungry eyes' from dirty dancing she ended up with 'time of my life' from dirty dancing :/ better safe than sorry lol xx

thats why dj's cost so much, cos they have to pay out for all the music , you should not have to provide it unless its something you've made/recorded.

We had a playlist, but provided the first dance song on a CD as we'd practised to it ... however - he cut out a load of the intro which we had choreographed also so we missed a whole load of moves because of it. If you're practising a special routine and know where on the song you are doing certain moves be sure to tell the DJ that you want it played fully!

I think I'll keep researching others for now and see if they ask for something similar.
