Hi everyone, I'm trying to save money on my wedding and thought I could cut back on the expense of getting someone to print the invitations. I'm not sure whether hand-written invites are considered tacky or inappropriate. What do you think? Also do you have any ideas of how to make them look good? I was thinking possibly some origami or using ribbons, or printing the writing on a paper insert in a card.
Cheers!

Loads have people on here have made thier own invites- and they look just as good as professional ones! I did the insides on my home printer, then made the outsides using card, ribbon, a rubber stamp and some little gold stars and a bit of glitter.

i bought mine as both H2B and myself love a specific card range which is art deco and they make invites for day and evening £3.95 for 10 a real bargain then we are having the picture from the invites photocopied and printed for the order of service and place cards and all we will have to do is add a bit of glitter but they will all then be matching at a frtaction of the price. sorted lol

hi we made our own invites i got some silver stickers with wedding invitation and some double rings on and made the covers then printed the inserts out on my computer i also bought an invites cd rom to help with design as i couldnt find what i wanted online or in publisher x
I wanted something simple elegant and glossy so i designed them on photo shop.. stuck them on my memory stivk and headed down to boots then mounted them and added ribbon and pearl acents. Pics on my profile.
I like them, i dont think they look tacky or anything. Its nice to add that personal touch

I bought & designed mine myself from a well known print company on the internet under £25 for 40 day & 40 evening inc envelopes they are lovely & good quality & everyone who's had one has complimented. I think handmade are lovely, but sometimes you can still spend loads making your own!

Our invites are a picture of us with our faces cheek to cheek and pouting its amusing and we have always loved it and it was scanned on Mil2bs computer and h2b took them to work and photocopied them!! budget busting is our game and most invites end up in the recycling and my friend still spent over £50 on her homemade invites before postage costs were even thought about.:0)xxx

I made both invites for day and night...think it depends on what materials etc you decide to choose! To be honest I think it would have been cheaper to buy online as 60 invitations cost me £75 approx to make, but then mine were made from lace! As for the reception ones...Ive decided not to use these anymore (very fussy I am) even after all the hard work and expense. Found some good looking lace imitation cards online that Im planning on ordering instead! xxx

i made our own invites........ 150 at a cost of less than £10 photo paper for printing(from our local £1 shop) and then two different colour ribbon black as the main with little pink bows attached (got two full rolls from our local market) serious bargains, havent had postage to pay as we have delivered them all by hand, and for the people that live some distance away i scanned and emailed the invites...... They look just as good if not better than some i have seen on the internet xx

To be honest my diy invites seem to be costing just as much if not more (plus the time im going to be putting in to do them) then the printed professional ones :-( but at least im getting what I want.

i think it depends how much patience you have. i'm getting my inviets for £1 each so nearly as cheap as making them but without the hassle! x

Make them. They cost a fortune to buy ready made and at the end of the day - its only gonna go in a bin. Whats the point really? x

Wow thanks everyone! I guess it's just a question of experiment and research, if I don't find anything I like that can be done cheaply and professionally I'll hand-make them, with a strict budget. Hadn't even considered postage and day and night invites! x

if you have the time and patience to do your own hun then go for it ...... if i could figure out how to add pix on here then i would upload them for you to see!!! x

I have fallen in love with some DIY invitations from Daintree. They supply the design obviously, along with the card, ribbon, everything needed to assemble, and printed inserts. But they are still costing much more than planned :-( £320 and i'm only looking at 40 day invites, 40 reply cards, 30 night time invites and 70 thank you cards! Eek x

We did postcards and did the rsvp via email and phone. Saved a fourtune and had a pic of us in the wood (we are getting married in the wood) on the front so was really personally and unique. Everyone loved them and cost us nothing except computer in and a bit of time :-)
