So this year is my last year at University which means I have to write a 12000 word dissertation, I also have 2 exams and an essay in semester one and another exam and 2 essays in semester two. My question is has anyone else done this? I know I'm going to be mega stressed out and I aren't quite sure how I'm going to balance it yet so I'm just a bit worried! x

In final year I had a bunch of essays (2 8,000's, 1 6,000, and several 2500-4000s), and worked 20 hours a week as well; I was also really ill with endo, in constant pain, and suffering with chronic fatigue. It wasn't easy; but it really wasn't that bad TBH.

Your degree must come first; so, I would try to draw up a time-table, and perhaps allow yourself a set amount of time each week eg Saturdays to devote to wedding planning. I'd also suggest trying to get anything 'big', like the venue and photographer, sorted out sooner rather than later if you haven't already, as these will likely be the most time-consuming things, and later in the year, with an increased work-load you might struggle.

Why dont you concentrate on uni before the wedding.... i work full time and travel for work so hardly at home and stressful job so long hours but i put a weekend aside once a month for a wedding weekend and get something done, keeps me organised xx

I kind of did this. H2b proposed to me during my third year at uni and i obviously wanted to start wedding planning straight away, but i had loads of work to do and a 10,000 word dissertation. My advice would be don't let your degree suffer for the wedding! What i did was book all the 'big' things as soon as possible, which for me was the venue, church and photographer. Then i concentrated on my uni work and only looked at wedding things at the weekends when i relaxed on my uni work. This worked for me as i had about a year from finishing my degree to the wedding date, so i now have all this time to plan. It depends how long you will have between uni and the wedding? xx

When I finish uni I'll have 10 months till the wedding, we have already booked the venue, registrar, DJ and are currently trying to find a photographer. I figure once those things are done I don't have a lot to worry about x

I think you have loads of time then.... you have done the main bits and can do the rest slowly as you go along or leave it until uni is finished xxx

10 months is plenty of time to sort the rest out, so i suggest get your photographer booked, and then concentrate on uni. if you get time/want a change then pick up wedding planning then, other thn that.,,,

It's all down to time management. I have just planned a wedding in our worst year of Uni, the second. I managed it, but did fail a couple of bits but passed them on the retake. I am now in my final year but fortunately the wedding will all be over and I can concentrate on my dissertation.

I graduated this summer but my last year at uni was hectic doing a teaching degree.
I had a 12000 word dissertation, 6x2000 word essays and six exams as well as being on placement in two schools and having observed lessons.
I agree that your degree comes first.

Definately make a plan, i split my day into hours and spent an hour on each topic a day, it wa the only way i could manage it
You need to prioritise and get the difficult stuff out the way first and then the things that you find easier will take less time at the end.

Uni should come first, you will have time after your wedding to do wedding planning. You can always do a couple of hours wedding planning here and there to have a break. I am currently working full time, sometimes I can work 60 - 70 hours a week, doing a module at uni and wedding planning. I always put my uni module first before the wedding planning as this will help my job prospects x x

I am working full time but completing a part time PhD!!! Its crazy and I have moments where I just want to give up, its a 70,000 word thesis and I am supposed to be handing in a draft copy in December a few weeks before the big day. Just try and stay calm and focused it will all be worth it, well that's what I keep telling myself!

nic, i had moments where i just wanted to give up but it is totally worth just sticking at it. I ended up getting so worked up about the workload and just wanting to get rid of it by quitting. Am so glad its over for me now, couldn't have done another year of essays and assignments.

I have recently graduated and the one thing i will suggest to you is knock wedding planning on the head and cut it down to a minimum....we booked the wedding for a year after i graduated so that i could focus on my degree....whens your big day?

yeah good plan, what i did was did some planning on my breaks for a week and then carried on with uni work.
In my opinion it has made the time go quicker as i wasnt so focused on it hehehe....plus you can get a bit overwhelmed with it and its nice to take a break and just be a couple

I am also working full time, studying and planning a wedding. My H2B wanted to get married in Jan/Feb but there was no chance everything would get done so we are getting married in July as my exams finish in June.... Gonna be a difficult year but if we work hard it is doable - JUST! xx

I planned our wedding during my final year of uni, my dissertation was due in May 8th and we got married July 5th. It wasn't easy and I wouldn't do it again haha, but I just got my results last week and I graduated with a second class BSc Hons, so it can be done.

Prioritise your time for uni, tbh for me uni work was a nice welcome break from wedding planning... Until the dissertation. Make sure you leave plenty of time, don't let h2b be useless and a cup of tea always helps.

Can't even say how proud you will feel after - how many people can say they planned their wedding and graduated in the same year! I haven't had an interview since but you can bet I'm using this as proof I can deal with anything and everything.

    Good luck to all x

I will finish uni June 2014 and am then getting married 30th August 2014 so I will only have two months when my dissertation and course are finished. But I am trying to get as much as I can sorted in summer 2013 so that I don't have a lot to worry about in my third year, but I am prepared for a struggle, especially as I am doing a lot of it DIY. It will all be worth it though. But I will deffinatly be putting my uni work before the wedding so I would say you should be doing this too. You will still have a fair amount of time to focus on the wedding after you have finished your last year. Just get the big things booked for now and put the rest of it to the back of your mind. And good luck with your exams, essays and dissertation! xxx

I was working 30 hrs a week, doing a degree and wedding planning upto last year. My last assignment (6000 words) was due in the week before the wedding. Tbh I think I survived on autopilot because I'm not the best at writing a plan/timetable of things to do. I must admit, it was a weight off my mind once I handed that last piece of work over lol.
