even though we are having a professional photographer we were also thinking about putting disposable cameras out on the tables with the hope that they would catch some shots that the photographer would miss. Is anyone else doing this, and if so how many are you using....one per place setting or just a few on each table?

    Thanks

I might do this and was going to put only one per table tbh, but I guess you could give one per person in lieu of favours

we are doing this too- just 1 per table as dont forget that developing the pictures can be expensive and with drunk people taking them they are not guaranteed to come out. we are not having any on the top table, so we have 8 tables of 10 with one camera each and we will put 2 in the bar area for the evening too x also i think1 per table is enough anyway as everyone will have their own cameras so you can always ask to see their pics and copy them xx

IMO I wouldnt bother because of the cost.

You would have to pay for the cameras.
Then you have to pay to get the photos developed and to be honest you might get one or two good photos but is it worth money!?

Most people will have their own digital cameras or their phones.
So I dont know who would bother with the disposable cameras

PLUS - will some get lost, damaged.

But this is just my opinion.

The last 3 wedding i've been to did this and they all wished they didn't!!

The camera didn't cost much to buy but it did cost a lot to develop and out of all the cameras they prob got 1 or 2 pics off each camera worth looking at!!

Its up to you but the advise I have been given is to save money!

We doing the same thing as u Steph, going to get blank discs and have designed packets for them to go in with a poem on. People can take their own pics during the day/eve then we can have a nose through all the pics & choose what we want and print those.

We were going to but with everyone having digital cameras these days we thought what was the point???
So instead i have brought a bunch of blank cd's which im going to leave a few on each table.
Ive wrote a poem with our names on asking ppl to download their pictures to it for us, which we are going to use as the cover and each cd has a sase with it so they can send it back to us when they are ready!

Oh and ive also decided to to start buying PROPS (silly hats, glasses, masks, scaffs etc) that im going to leave in a box so ppl can help themselves to so we get some funny pics too!

think i might now swap after reading this to the disks as at least, as you say, you only print the decent ones. I didnt think that half of them will have ppls fingers etc over the lense as they are too drunk to operate them and yet we will still have to pay for all the prints.

Love the props idea - we thought of doing this. We found a vintage photographer that comes with loads of props and takes pics as requested with a vintage camera.
Think we'll probably do both disposable cameras and cds - been to weddings where they've had one or the other and they got quite a lot of spare of the momment photos off the disposables. I've used them before on nights out and the price is usually included in price of camera in the shops ive used x

I don't think you should do this here is my altunritive which will save you bags of money.
take your or borrow a laptop. get a cheap SD card reader.
tell all your guests to bring their digital camreas and phones ect
at the end of the night get your BMs Ushers ect not to let people leave till they have put all the pictures of you day on the computer. it will save you the cost of the camreas and the cost of printing the rubbish pictures. you will also probably get more pictures of your day. and it will mean people don't have to remember to send you them.

I can't think of anyone I know (both professionally and personally) who has actually bothered to keep the prints that came out of disposable cameras.

They usually end up lost, broken, dunked in a plate of dessert, or the images are just plain bad and not bad in a OMG that's so funny bad way.

As has been mentioned there is D&P cost associated with them too. Look at around somewhere in the £5 region just for developing, between £3 and £5 per camera itself and about 5p -10p per (bad quality, poor paper) print. So about £11 per camera - just to get the prints done. 10 cameras - £110 which you would be better spending on giving to your photographer and asking them to stay on and cover the reception.

we were thinking about having them aswell but then realised that most of our friends will have had a drink so we take stupid pics and most of them wont come out so will have to spend a fortune on getting them developed! i personally dont think they are worth the money. 99% of people will have a phone with a camera on or a digital camera and will prob take photos if you ask them to put on facebook or on a disc i am sure they would and you could print them yoursleves from fb which would save you money!

I often wonder with the price of digital cameras coming down, and the cost of developing those disposable ones (and to be honest the pictures are usually pretty dreadful), it wouldn't be cheaper to buy a couple of cheap digital cameras to get passed around the place instead......

I was going to get the disposable cameras but after reading this thread i'm not too sure now. The c/d thing sounds good but i don't fancy having discs on my tables, i think they may look tacky. So, maybe i'll have them ready on the table where my postbox is so people can help themselves. I'll make a nice sign to put up so people don't think iIve lost the plot and put my home address in the envelope with the disc.

Yeah, thats what i'll do lol just talked myself into it hahaha xx xx

going to be having a photobooth! We seen it at a wedding fair and looked fab and such a laugh! not told any of our guests so should be a good surprise! we have also paid extra for the guest book, so people can have the photos next to the message! loved this idea! oh and we also get a disc of all the pics taken and all the guests get to keep their own photos! xx

I'm not bothering with them as in the day of digital most people we know have digital cameras and will upload their images to our website for us so we still get the natural shots from guests without the costs. It will be far better than having to pay for expensive disposable cameras and developing costs not to mention reprints in future.
