I don understand why people keep telling me dont need this and I dont need the other. Its getting right on my nerves now!!!!!!!!!
I know H2B's grandma is only trying to help and just wants us to save money but everything I say she tells me how sill I am for paying for it as I dont need it..... I said we might have a harp and she said why you dont need one!!!! ...........then I said about the cake and she said oh just go asda or something you dont need to spend much on a cake...... today I said we were gong dress shopping tomorrow and she said what for you have 2 years yet!!!!!!!!!!! I know she is trying to be practical but its really annoying me.... its my day and if i wanna go shopping tomorrow or next week I will!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If I wanted to pay £600000 on an ice sculptur (i wont) then its my choice!!!!!!!!!!!
I probably sound so un gratefull, but i just want it to be a lovely day....

Every elderly grandma are still very old fashioned an d probablay all hold the view that "lots and lots of money shouldnt be spent on a wedding day" and prob thinks that they managed on a small amoutn so you should be able to as well...
she probably doesnt' realise just HOW much things..even the simple things add up etc...and she is probably tryin to get involved and help and doesnt realise she's getting a bit interfering..just explain she appreciate all her feedback but you and h2b have discussed it and this is what you want! ...maybe involve her with the dress shopping get her excited!!!

we have the same situation with ppl saying 'why r u doing that? how much did that cost' and make it out were spending money we dont need to, yet others are saying how excited they are. With some ppl it will be jealousy, with his nan maybe shes traditional and would like to see the money go on house?... do what YOU want. Its ur day and u only get one.

Aww hun dont feel dis heartened. Just smile and nod and then do what you want. Just because people have already got married they think they are experts. You only know whats right for you so i say - do it your way! Ive had to learn that lately and i am going to stick to it! xxxxx

Parents and grandparents mean well but i think they forget what its like to be getting married for the first time and how exciting it is. Plus many of them didnt have flashy weddings back then, it was just a quick service and then off to the local pub! Me and my H2B went to a venue the other week and both our mothers spent the whole time pointing out the negative things and how we shouldnt get in to debt for a nice venue, even though they both loved the venue!! In the end we sat them down and said that it was our wedding and we would do as we liked, especially as we are saving up and paying for it ourself! Dont worry about what others think, its your day and you should do whatever you want!
It does get quite annoying when people think they know what 'right' and 'wrong' for YOUR wedding. I don't mind ideas, but when people put it in a way where you should be having this, or go there to get this..you feel like telling them where to go! It is YOUR and H2Bs day and you will have it your way. Its never to early for anything if you want to go dress shopping now then go.. and if you want that ice sculptor then have it hahaha!

lol my grans the opposite, as is MIL2B - they like a bit of posh (I get my expensive taste from my gran) but others who shall remain nameless are suggesting things that are ridiculous ways of cost cutting. OH is in agreement on almost everything (I'm working on the other bits) but people start thinking you're being daft or getting above your station for spending a bit more to have a classy day! Do what you want, it's not every day you get married! x

When I have spoke to people who have spent £15,000 to £20,000, I thought that keping it in an £8000 budget was being realistic but gran wants me to slice that down to £2000 I thought you cant get a nice venue for that lol. I love her to bits and I am so greatful for everything she does for me but this is rather annoying. I have sat down and said that me and mark have talked about it and we both decided that 'X' will be nice for the wedding. Also explained that we have done the research and found the cheapest option. She still says we are silly for doing it.... She made me giggle the other day when she said you can get wedding dresses for £30 .... I think she has forgot how much things cost these days lol

My family keep doing this, everything i say ohhh i like that all i get is you cant afford that or what a waste of money. i know theyre trying to help cut costs down but its driving me scatty! lol

When doing my family tree i came to the conclusion that in those days most marriages were done very quickly without much preparation to make way for a baby usually born approx 7 months after the wedding ;) that is what i tell myself whenever i get told about how "it doesnt take that long to plan a wedding".... :D Its your day, do it your way and just smile and nod to anyone who tells you differently then shake it off ignore it and carry on shopping xx

What annoyed me was when there was friends and family who are married(and did the big wedding thing i might add) told me i was silly to want what i/we want as its all a waste of money. We should put it towards something that we actually need and if they could do it again they would have a small wedding. Thats easy for them to say seeing as they have already 'been there, done that' but i just find it kinda frustrating as it makes me feel selfish for wanting things the way we do. In the end i have just decided to not say anything to anyone, except my MOH(who is probably as excited as i am lol), this way i dont have to put up with their crap.

its your day and as much as i think its the reason your having the day thats most important... i also think its important to be able to look back at it and know that it was perfect for you! dont live with regrets..... money comes and goes so easy i just think its worth going that little bit further to create the memories that will last a lifetime! x

I agree, it's your day, and something you're only going to do once. If you want a harp then get one. If you want to arrive or leave in a helicopter then it's totally your decision!

My parents are the same, but to be fair I'm keeping things to the bare minimum anyway as trying to keep costs down....haven't told mother that i got the blue "I DO" rhinestones to go on the bottom of my shoes as she told me off for wanting a garter lol...... I may be 30 but, i still hide things from the parents "what, this old thing, had it years just never worn it"
Happy to be Mrs Holt, love my husband and love the memories

im already coming across similar situations! my mum and dad adn H2B's mum adn dad are going halfers on the wedding costs so im kinda torn between trying to keep costs at a min for their sake but also wanting all the wee things that they think is a waste of money sniff!! For example i have my heart set on a chocolate fountain i jus LOVE them whereas they think it is pointless! So me and the H2B hav started another savings account to save to pay for the wee extras that we really want, think its the best way forward!
xx
we fit together perfectly. . .like a jigsaw puzzle.

my nans the same, she asked why i was going dress shopping and keeps telling me i cant get this and i cant get that and how are you going to afford all this...... blah blah blah. Its MY wedding, i will buy what i want when i want it, look at what i want when i want to, im paying for it myself out of kevs wages (LOL) and if you dont like it..... TOUGH!!! sorry rant over do what you like hun, weddings can take time to plan and it saves all the hassle at the end thinking sh*t i still need this and i still need to pay for that xx
