Hi guys, I'd appreciate your thoughts....

Sil2b wanted to organise my hen do. Now, she's great at organising things, and my maid of honour isn't so we were both in agreement that she would do this. Anyway, she emailed my h2b the details of where she wanted to book, and whilst I was going through the emails, (we have a joint account, and I was looking for some email she had sent to me a while ago) I found the link to the place she wanted to go.....and I couldn't help but have a sneak peak, even though it was supposed to be a surprise!!!

Now, don't get me wrong, it is a fantastic mansions type holiday cottage with a pool, sauna, hottub, serviced etc, and if money and time were no object, it would be great.

BUT it will cost 300 per person for three nights, it is in the middle of nowhere (and I like pubs!) And a very long way to travel..I think she might have got caught up in the fantasticy ness of the place without thinking about practicalities. A lot of my friends have kids and even those who don't, 300 is a lot of money for a hen do!!!

To be honest, I'd rather just go up the coast for a couple of nights, I know a couple of nice enough cottages we can rent out which will work out about fifty quid per person for three nights which I think is fine and I know is affordable in the group.

I would so much rather do that....but do I tell her, even though I wasn't supposed to know? She's been so enthusiastic about this and the whole of the wedding thing, I feel really bad and don't want to upset her, but I do thing she may have got a leeeetle bit carried away with the whole thing........

    Xx

maybe wait and see, if it's too expensive for your friends I'm sure they'll say so. then she'll just have to change her plan

like Hails said you need to get him to reply and say its too expensive for everyone as you know that there budgets will only stretch so far and they need to reconsider looking elsewhere

Yeah, i agree with everyone else. Just tell him about it and i'm sure he'll agree it's a bit on the expensive side and then he can email and pretend it's his own idea. Personally I think that's too expensive for a hen do. I'd hate the thought of my friends feeling obliged to spend that much. Hope you get it sorted. x

It sounds lovely and I would love something like that but if it was suggested to me for someone's hen do I'd probably have to say no. As well as the accomodation there will be food, drink and travel to factor in so it's going to cost more than a trip abroad. I found a place that works out at £90 per person for the weekend and I felt bad about that so I've paid the £450 deposit and told my bms to take that off the cost of the stay for the other hens. I think your h2b should tell her straight that it would be far too expensive and if you tell him what your thoughts were then he can pass that on so that it's not a straight out no.

You never know, she might have a connection who can get the place über cheap but there's still the lack of pubbage to consider.

I'd just bring it up in convo with him and say you wonder what it is she is organising and that you hope it's nowhere too expensive and not in the idle of nowhere. He might then reply to her and tell her not to bother with that.

Oooh as nice as it sounds there's no way I could justify spending that much on a girls weekend. If I were you I'd be dropping massive hints to H2B so he has no question in his mind that you don't think this is a feasible option

Get your H2B to say something....

I got invite for a friends hen do last weekend and was for 2 nights in a cottage, middle of now where again and £100 a night per person so cost me £200 and have to bring my own drink and chip in for food.... i declined the invite as alot of money and i wont be actually getting anything out of it but lounging round a cottage for 2 days but everyone has different tastes so maybe you need to point out what you actaully want so she has some tips and hints....

Ok, I have spoken to h2b.

He doesn't know I know where the location is, but I said that I wouldn't like to be in the middle of nowhere and that budget is going to be a big thing. Ideally I wouldn't want people spending more than 20-40 per night for accommodation. I also said that I'd like plenty of pubs nearby and reasonably close.....I also mentioned that I'd love to go up to the coast maybe....

He looked a bit taken aback, and then shut himself in the bedroom and had a loooooong conversation with his sister so fingers crossed she's got the message!

I don't want to sound ungrateful and it's lovely of her to organise it, but it just isn't doable on that sort of budget!

Also, if it's in the middle of nowhere we will probably just end up sitting around getting drunk......and I could do that for much cheaper, if you know what I mean.

    I'll keep you updated! Xx

ooh naughty you haha! though sounds like it might be a good thing that you took a peek! Though id expect that youre other girilies would have also blanched at the idea of paying 300 for a weekend, I went to turkey for the week for that!

She does sound like shes doing a stellar job regardless though, shes obviously just got a bit carried away with the notion, sounds like it would be a brilliant venue if it wasnt for the whopping budget!

Update! (I don't know how to updat on the thread title!)

So we went round to his sisters yesterday, and it's good news! She now wants to go to Whitby! yay!

I spoke to her about my concerns re budget, and she said she agrees and we have decided in a maximum, there are two cottages next to each other that we can get for four hundred for three nights, which will be around forty quid per person - great stuff! Xx
