We have narrowed our choice down to 3 venues, but the difference in price is making our decision to choose 1 very hard!!
The 1st venue are asking for 2.2k this venue is stunning from the outside but i'm not to keen on the inside, the price includes setting up & cleaning up after (they even store our items for upto 2 weeks). They do charge a corkage fee of £4 per bottle, we plan on providing wine & champagne for 150 people so the corkage cost will amount to alot, they also charge £150 for use of the kitchen, so will end up costing around 3k.
The 2nd venue is again stunning outside & in they charge 1.7k but i'm not sure if they help set up & clean up after (will be finding this out asap) they don't charge for corkage or kitchen use.
The 3rd venue is a village hall & this will only cost us around £600, this price includes use of the venue the evening before so that we can set the room up. The only problem so far with this option is that the hall has to be cleaned that night, so we would have to add costs of a cleaner on top of that.
I think if the 2nd venue gets back in touch & says that the cost includes setting up & cleaning up after I will be booking them, if not i'm going to really struggle. I love the venue but us it really worth an extra 1.1k (difference between it & village hall). With the village hall option I imagine bar prices will be cheap too, but the outside of the building is very plain & I've always imagined a grand building to be my wedding reception location.
Weddings really are hard work lol

We too had the dilemma of choosing between two venues.

Both were Kentish barns, one run by a charity and one owned by jools holland himself which is a set up wedding venue.

The charity run one wanted £5900 for barn hire, bar hire, staff and hog roast! The second one was £5365 including sit down meals for 40 plus buffet for 150, arrival drinks, toast drinks and half a bottle of wine for 40 people. They also included cake, table flowers and a dj in their standard price!!

Now we thought our first choice would be much cheaper being charity run and when I told her it was too much money she had a go at me!! So went with the cheaper option which is far more beautiful and had a team of wedding coordinators unlike our first choice who had one.

In my opinion we also went for the option that was going to make our lives a whole lot easier!! So £1700 does sound like a lot more but may take a lot of stress and pressure off of you xx

I've got that problem at the moment as me and hubby to be are trying to pick venues to view, we are going to see one that would be lovely, but I've heard is very expensive and the price puts me off (its an old house) and the other two are hotels which is looking to be the cheaper option... I just can't figure out which would be best!

The one we've chosen we thought we'd never be able to afford, we and had a look anyway and their weekday package was so good that we booked there and then.

It's recognise as Kent's premier wedding venue and has a two year waiting list.

If you think you can't afford something, go and have a look anyway and you may be pleasantly surprised :) xx

we're the same, your best bet is to go and view each one and ask lots of questions, my OH is one of these who writes everything down so he doesn't forget. also ask if they have any offers or deals and what's included. me and OH looked at a venue asking for way over our budget but because we explained it was too much they said they'd chuck in a dj for the night aswell. alot of places do leave room for you to bargain with them.

Make a list of what is important to you and what is a nice to have if you can afford it. Find out how much a cleaner would be too xx

personally i would go with a venue that make the day easier for you. so the less you have to do the less stressed you will be. it sounds like your leaning towards option 2 so go with the one you really want xx

Beckyu98 your right I am leaning more towards the 2nd venue, its perfect. I've arranged to view it on tuesday so will go armed with a list of questions.
Venue 1 was my favourite the outside of the building is stunning but we were really let down by the interier. It was just a plain hall with hideous lights & pillers in the way everywhere.

I'd lean towards the second venue. Anything that makes the day easier x
