Absolutely devastated..... We had hope to change the minds of our vicar and my Dad was hopeful but I've just had an email from Dad and despite his best efforts, Debbie and I have been refused a blessing in my church for a second time so it's definitely not happening I was christened there, confirmed there, known as the parish baby, my family have worshipped there since before I was born and still do, have raised 100's of 1,000's of £'s for the organ appeal, my father is the ringer master of the bells, my mother is a churchwarden... There's nothing my family and I wouldn't do for that church and now, to hear this.... I've got no words, I'm absolutely devastated I've grown up there and lived there practically over my 23 years of being on this earth. I'm so upset so may not be around properly for a bit.... If I am, please be gentle with me, I'm feeling very fragile at the moment.... This meant everything to me I feel utterly rejected and at rock bottom

Sorry to hear this. It reminds me of Mrs Browns Boys though when her son wanted to get married to his partner and the vicar would not allow a blessing in the church as they were same sex and in the eyes of God it was not how it should be. So she replied with something along the lines of how does God see love. Cannot remember the exact words she used but certainly true.

That's true GF and when she said it it was so meaningful.... Lana makes a very good point there... Is it down to each individual vicar then???
Ill marry my hero

Sorry to hear this, can you not find another vicar to carry out a blessing for you at your church? Slightly different circumstances I know but I was chatting to my local Dean about my church and as I'm divorced even though my vicar has no problem with marrying us, there are still some vicars that won't, she said that you cannot be refused the use of a church to get married/blessed in as it's a public place but it's up to the individual vicar as to who actually carries out the service as some will and do refuse. Could you give your local Dean a ring to see what they say?

That is awful. Can you not go.above their heads? I dont know anything about churches and religion but im guessing there are higher up people outside of your church? Could someone who is willing to do it come to carry it out at your church? Its pretty poor considering the links you have with them.
If it is going to be this way then look at the positives of where tou can get married. At the end of the day as long as you two are there looking beautiful and feeling confident together...does it really matter aboit anything else? I knoe it meant a lot to you bit if they wont bless it then maybe they are not worth the time and money that would have gone into them x

That's horrible, and seems very unfair considering how same sex marriages are coming to be viewed internationally legal wise x

Hmmm, are we not all children of God in the eyes of the church? It's a shame that some vicars and priests act in what is basically quite an un-Christian way. I feel for you hun x

Thank you ladies, sorry for not replying until now but we've both been very upset over this.... We've got our heads round it a bit now and have decided to take the cathedral up on it's offer... They will happily do a blessing for us so we've decided that we'll go to Exeter Registry Office first with just the bridal party and family then head onto the cathedral round the corner and after which, we'll go to our reception venue wherever that may be. Having to make the best of things right? Unfortunately, we've tried twice and there's no changing minds now, I have to accept this and stop thinking about it. I'm going head long into planning to distract me from my heart ache in the hope I'll feel better fingers crossed. Although it's not illegal to perform a thanksgiving service or blessing, not everyone is in favour and sadly if the vicar refuses there's not a lot we can do about it..... Thank you for your kind words, we do appreciate that xxx
