We are having our cake as dessert and im not sure weather to have seperate tiers of an actual dessert cake or just have a normal wedding cake. the trouble is for the evening buffet we are having afternoon tea so there will be alot of tea breads and cakes and scones so im worried people will be sick of sponge cakes etc. should i have two cakes one to cut after lunch for dessert then another for the evening as have it sliced for people to take home with maybe with a take away cup of coffee or hot chocolate (like a midnight or shall i say 1am snack lol) what you think. I really do want a traditional cake but dont want people to be sick of it all lol.

hmm not sure too be honest i was thinking the same with mine either having a cupcake cake and using them as favours or having a dessert cake like u said the midnight snack idea does sound good tho something diferent but if u just want a traditional cake go for whatever you want it is your wedding after all

You could go for something different like a cheesecake wedding cake - seen some lovely ones, chocolate, strawberry etc. Bit pricey but they are delivered frozen to the venue the day before and are set up exactly like a wedding cake, tiers and all, and you get to keep the stand I think. If you google, you should find it if you are interested! x

our wedding cake will be used as dessert on the buffet - i suggested making the cake as the "angel cake" for a bit of difference but H2B don't fancy it :)

Why don't you have one display cake and then serve up sheet cakes from the back? That way it works out cheaper than if you were to have lots and lots of cakes. No one will know if their slice came from the display cake or from a baking sheet. You could always do a couple of different types of cake that way too. Either that or get one of them cake stands that has different height tiers on them and buy different gateaus for each level?

I'll be having cupcakes, but they will be different flavours, i'm not too keen on traditional wedding cakes :/ I'm having a tea party theme so there will be lots of cakes etc. at my reception buffet but no one I have spoke to has minded, more been very optimistic and loved the idea Xx

why not try a hot cruss bun, with butter obvs, and a good coffee at 1am? enough to sober up the slightyly tipsy, and keep the drunk from vomiting untill they're safly in their own homes :L
Plus, it sticks with the tea-party theme, without being clich'e in any wya
just an idea :] Good luck <3 x

This mite sound like a sill question but...When is everyone getting their cake cut and serving it? Do u get cut it after the reception and serve with tea/coffee or do u get it cut after ur evening guests have arrived and seen it? Seems a shame to pay so much money on a lovely cake and then the evening guests not seeing it x

H2B wants it cut after the wedding breakfast, I'd rather cut it at the evening do, then the buffet isn't all savoury

We're having a sponge cake, 3 tiers i think. and we will serve it as dessert after the sausage and bacon butties at the evening reception. We chose sponge because neither me or h2b like fruitcake.

I LOVE the cheesecake idea. Infact i love cheesecake!! i think i may discuss the cake with h2b again :D

We are having our cake as dessert so cutting it after the speeches. We have 3 different cakes to cater for everyone, fruit at the bottom as its the heavyiest :-(
then we have a vanilla sponge with vanilla buttercream filling and on top we are having a chocolate sponge with a galaxy chocolate buttercream filling with little cake bags for people who couldnt make it, evening guests or day guests who want to eat it later.

We are just having cupcakes too as neither of us like fruitcake, but i am thinking of getting a small round spnge cake made to put on top tier. I like the cupcake idea as our wedding is easter weekend, so we think it fits in with our theme quite well and can be done in a few different colours to fit in. However we are only having one big evening buffet as our ceremony itself is not until 5pm, that way we not having seperat daytime/evening guests, this was als because we couldnt afford a sit down meal ect, just hope it works..x
