We have paid the first instalment of our deposit....well, we've set up the bank transfer anyway so it'll go through next week. Am relieved but at the same time it's scary...seems like now it's just a slippery slope of things to pay for!!
To the ladies that are further along with their planning than I am (which is probably everyone!) - I want to ask the venue about special room rates for guests etc; do you think it's too soon to do that once our confirmation of payment is through? I'm anxious to get the discount rates arranged, but not sure if anyone will actually be booking their rooms yet as wedding date is over a year away...
Any advice much appreciated :)

Ooo how exciting! I don't think it is too early to ask, personally I would f thought the would of mentioned it already! I would think they would be fine discussing room rates with you, especially after they have received your deposit hun!

Thank you! Yeah they did say they would be happy to accommodate us if we chose to have our wedding there blah di blah when we were just viewing the venue, so I suppose I may as well ask :) Just worried they'll maybe only give us a certain window of time for the discount and nobody will be bothered booking their accommodation this early...but I guess as we'll pretty much take up all their accommodation we can be demanding! ;)

We sorted out the hotel discount rates over a year before our date, it helps as not only did we get a discount on their rates at the time but since then they have put up prices but have honoured our agreement. I would sort it out sooner rather than later,
BUT be warned some venues expect you to secure the rooms with a credit card or a cash deposit!!! If they ask for this politely say "NO THANKYOU"!!!! otherwise you could get stung for rooms not taken by your wedding guests!!!! xx

Ooh thanks for the warning and the advice re prices! V helpful!! :D :D
Yay exciting We sorted our room discount out at the time we booked, so about 16 months before
There are so many people out there who will tell you
what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

Hi - we booked our venue 14 months in advance and arranged special wedding guest room rates. This was all confired in writing to us before we signed our function contract. Make sure whatever agreed by you both is given to you in writing as prices do tend to go up each year. xx
