We were told about somewhere that sold some lovely favours the other day, looked them up and they're going to cost £2.75 for a cookie (yes they look lovely) they're square cookies with a camper van on, they're extremely cute and can come with a personalised licence plate on them (initials or date of the wedding... I thought we'd go initials as we're going to be AC DC once we get married ;) )

Anyway, as cute as they are.... £2.75 seems a bit steep considering the fact that the miniature alcohols we were looking at cost £2.19 (or even less if we buy normal bottles and print off our own labels)

Has anyone else made cookies with decorations like that on and how easy is it? Fiancé thinks we can make them, I don't argue that but wouldn't want them to look naff :/

2.75 for even an elaborate cookie, especially when wanting bulk, seems a bit extortionate to me

You can always do a few trial runs to see how naff they do look lol, some practice and I'm sure they will look lovely

Haha I'm glad you agree ;)

Yeah we have plenty of time for practice runs I suppose. Just need to research what kind of icing we need ect.

I do have a friend who makes cakes, she might have an idea what we'll need or know someone who makes cookies.

Yeah I do worry slightly as I am a baker but my speciality is cakes and buns and I'm never too fussed on doing any posh decorations either, but like you say practice makes perfect :D

If the trials all go wrong I suppose we could look at cupcakes instead with a cute little topper.

They are :) didn't last long either haha.... I'm told it was a beeb recipe (beebeeC) for cookies. The only difference is that we used self raising flour instead! If you g00gle it, it should come up :) xx

We are just guna make them a bit neater, decorate how we want and put into little organza bags, and a homemade label attached saying 'thank you for being our bridesmaid' or something along those lines :)

I've made decorated cookies before, if they're similar to what I made then they were really time consuming to decorate! You have to wait for the icing to dry between doing an outline and filling in etc, so that's probably why they are a bit more expensive. Also i'd recommend a tasting session if you're going to buy them as they can be very very sweet if they have royal icing on them, i have a sweet tooth and find them too sweet :D

Really? We've found that it really doesn't take much or any time at all! But everyone's different and it's still fun :) x

Yeah I tried it with halloween pumpkins and I found it a lot of work and time! I'm a cake decorator and found the cookies harder to do :D I looked up the camper van cookies and found something similar to DonnaH39's description and think it would be quite difficult for me to do. I agree with you though it is fun :D

Yeah the campervans will be very difficult to do, I get that.... think we'll give them a shot though, I'm wondering if the cupcakes with toppers might be the better option. Everyone loves mine and my mums cupcakes anyway ;) so might be a nice touch on the day.

Only thing with cupcakes is people will be having the wedding cake later on in the evening, but I don't think you can ever have too much cake?

Oh no, never too much cake!! Better to have too much than too little.... How about this? It was at my cousin's wedding - they had loads of cupcakes and they used the cake on top as cutting, was small enough and they are keeping it as tradition dictates ;) xx

I'm going to be picky to be honest, I really want a tiered cake haha so I would end up with both, have the tiered cake for the evening and for cutting the cake pictures and if I do cupcakes they'll be as favours for the day guests :)

Your cousins cake and cupcakes look lovely, I'm just greedy and want everything lol

That would be a good idea, you could buy rice paper camper vans and stick them onto gumpaste discs which could sit on top of buttercream :D I've seen pics of people who have their wedding cake in the middle and two tiered cupcake stands either side. You could buy some individual cupcake boxes for people to take them home if they were too full :D

make the campervan bit out or roll out icing, let them set (its just cutting the bits in the right colours and sticking them on) then once you have baked the cookies sticks em with a bit of icing, job done.
