Hello all. Got engaged in the Swiss mountains on 6th July & have just started thinking about planning. TBH i'm absolutely petrified of planning a wedding, i really don't know how people enjoy doing this, there's so much to think about & i'm such a perfectionist so i'm scared it's not going to be, well, perfect :$

Ideas so far consist of Giant Tipee's at a coastal venue (probably Cornwall) next September, most likely at a private house rented for the occasion. Either a civil ceremony if we can find somewhere licensed or humanist if not. Major dilemma is co-ordinating Venue booking, tippee hire & guest list as we don't know what size tippee we'd need because we don't have a guest list & therefore can't decide on a venue. I think we need to agree on a guest list first but i've seen an amazing venue that i reckon won't fit all the guests we will need :0(
    YOU
Help/advice appreciated on venue booking, guest lists & tipee weddings!

First of all you probably need to work out your budget and then get a rough idea of numbers. Once you have that sorted you can start to plan venues etc. Your ideas do sound lively though I saw something similar in an Irish don't tell the bride fairly recently and it worked really well.

Good luck with the planning xx

Thanks Tori. Yes it was that episode that got me thinking that this is definitely what we want for our day. It suits us perfectly. Just need to pray for the weather to be ok which is why we were thinking early Sept as it seems to be ok. My friend's anniversary is 3rd Sept & she says in the past 7 years it's only rained once on the 3rd Sept!
I keep hearing about fixing a budget first, i suppose i'm just trying to dodge this, as i'm scared i won't be able to have everything i want if i fix a budget first (silly i know).

hi you better get a move on if you want a wedding down here (I live in Cornwall) they book up really fast especially September the Cornish tipee company I've heard are quite good but cost a bomb, the other company that I saw at a wedding fair ages ago do tipee hire and there tipee are amazing they are called world inspired tents, I would make a rough guest list for numbers then start ringing around for availability, once you find a venue that will let you have a tipee, i check with a hire company for them hope you manage to find one, best of luck

aww there a wider range of budgets on here. Some have more than others but it doesn't mean the ones costing less are any less of a perfect day. It's amazing what Ideas you can come up with that are personal t you when you're tryign to save money.

As already mentioned try to set a budget. Find out if any parents are helping out and their rough amounts. Then see if you can honestly save any each month (taking into consideration other things coming up like christmas/birthdays/holidays etc).

If you know you def want a tipee then I'd check out their prices for the vaious sizes. Then write a rough guest list. Hopefully your numbers will match up to one of the sizes so that's at least a starting point. After that, have a look for venues that can place the tipee and also the catering etc. From this you've get a venue hire amount and catering amount etc. Set a limit for your dress.

I think at this stage try not to make too many decisions too soon. Have fun ringing around for information and visiting suppliers. Get their prices and avilabilites. Make a note of all the ones you love and somewhere in all that you'll end up with your venue and your other suppliers! lol

It is a lot of jigging about at times, but you may find one thing costs less so you can put the saving towards something else.

Before all this though, call on the services of any family or friends that have something to officer like a photographer, someone that likes making cakes. someone crafty to make invites etc. That will save you sooo much - especially if they can do them as a present for you :) x

Remember if you decide to go humanist these are not legally recognised in England (only in Scotland) so you would need to do the deed at the registry office at some point to legalise your marriage. Doesn't have to be the same day or anything but it would have to be done.

Cornwall and Devon are extremely popular and book up fast so get stuck in and start researching!

First thing first, write a list of everything you'd like, and do a bit of research as to costs and things.

You then need to work out your budget, and the amount of time you have to save (always leaving a bit left in the kitty for the washing machine blowing up etc etc).

This will give you and idea of what you can realistically afford...and if you cannot afford absolutely everything you wanted, you can start looking at where to make savings (for example, having just a buffet rather than a full wedding breakfast, having fewer guests etc)

Teepee hire looks amazing, and could work out cheaper than other venues if you can bring in your own alcohol and catering.

Don't feel daunted, I was at first but once you get into it, you'll love it! Xx

Definitly get on it with venues based on your budget and numbers, like others have said venues book up well in advance during peak season. Once you've got that booked you can hit the checklist and work through it x x
