Wedding Forum - Damaged my Engagement Ring...

I was putting the washing away last night, goes into my son's room to put his washing on his bed, comes out and shuts his door, and nearly ripped my finger off!! I have lost weight and my engagement ring is a bit big, my knuckle keeps it on but it spins around freely on my finger and H2B? has kept saying we need to go and get it made smaller but we've just not had the time. The ring caught on my son's door handle (it's one of them fancy curly handles which has a sticky out swirl on either side of the end of the handle) so I've gone to walk away after shutting the door and got dragged back as my ring was stuck. It has made a right mess of my finger, luckily it's not cut the skin, but my finger is all swelled up and black and blue. But my gorgeous ring is all bent, not only bent out of the circle shape but but bent sideways too!! I've made a right mess of it. I was so upset. H2B said we will go and get it reshaped this week but I'll have to wait till my finger heals, and then we can get it resized, but I miss it. I don't usually wear it when I'm doing the housework but had one of them days and just forgot to take off before I started. I won't do that again!!

We have a lovely jeweller in our local shopping centre I have used him before, so will take it there. Oh I hope he can do it while we wait, I was thinking that I would have to leave it with him.

Thank you :) It's very black and swollen and I don't think I'll be able to go the jewellers this week, prob have to go the week after. H2B wants to get it made smaller at same time so have to wait till my finger is back to normal. Really miss it, strange isn't it how you get used to it being there and feel really bare without it.

Ouch, your poor finger :( hope it gets better soon! Make sure you take your ring to a good jeweller to get it fixed and it'll be fine :) xxx

Thanks ladies :) Oh I do hope I don't have to have a new band put on it. So glad you got your ring back before your wedding day Louby, you must have been so worried about that. x

Hi ladies, just an update,
The swelling on my finger had gone down by Sat morning so we went to a lovely jewellers I use for repairs and cleaning, Had a talk to him about making my ring a bit thicker around the bottom, and he measured my finger and the ring needed to come down 1 & half sizes. I had taken with me some odd gold earrings I had from loosing the other to them over the years. He said if he used the gold from the earrings to build up the ring I would loose the hallmark, but if we bought a 2mm wedding ring he could use that to remake three quarters of the ring and it would have a hallmark too, so it wouldn't devalue the ring in anyway. He was able to give me £50 for the earrings, which was a surprise, didn't think there was that much gold :) He quoted us £100 and we just had to pay an extra £50. We returned to the shop to pick it up later in the afternoon and I am thrilled with it, he done a fabulous job. It is much thicker around the bottom half of the ring and it fits perfect. I thought it was perfect before, but H2B was never happy with how thin the band was. I suppose I now concede and say it did need to be a bit thicker. Now it is better than perfect :)) xx
