So me and H2b have decided on a cupcake style wedding cake with a little cake to cut on the top. We are having 50 guests in the day time and possibly 10 more for the reception. My question is how many cupcakes will I need? Do I need to have 1 per person or can I ask for the to be cut in half when they are put out with the rest of our buffet at the reception? I'm so confused about what to do. The top cake will be being cut and put out too and two of the cupcakes will be being kept for me and H2b so we can have one each at a later point in the day (after a 3 course meal I won't be hungry). Help!

I would have 1 per person. It'd be nice for everyone to have one each and they'll look better presented if they're whole. X

    I'd say one each.

My best friend got married this year and had a cupcake tower. It was beautiful! She got married in a country house and so the bar and the reception room were divided by a smaller (smaller by country house standards!) hall which guests could sit quietly in and chat - she had the cake in the hall way so everytime people passed through to the bar or go outside they were picking up cupcakes!! They had 200 cupcakes and only 80 guests! All but about 15 got eaten and we (the bridesmaids/brides family) ate most those on the way home the next morning!

With this in mind I think I want cupcakes too. My friend had a range of different sizes from large to bite size which was great even those who were full up had a little nibble! I contrast, my sister in law had a four tier cake, far more guests and most of the cake went in the bin the next day!! I think there is something about cupcakes that makes them seem easier to eat! xx

I like the Idea of the different sized ones, I hadn't even thought of that! Looks like I'll be going for one per person lol. Luckily the MIL is good at baking and stuff so she's said she will make them. x

I'll see if I can find a pic of my friends that she isn't in (not sure if she'd like me posting her up). Defo consider the different sizes, it was great, our little group of friends on the night started out with "i'll just have a small one" and then they were so good we were soon going back for more. I just can't stand the thought of getting a cake and it going to waste! x

Here's the cupcake tower she had. There were loads of them in a box so the staff just kept topping it up through the night. Personally i'm not sure I like the giant one on the top but every one is different! x

That looks awesome! I think I would just have a normal cake on top but the cupcakes look brilliant! x

Thanks ladies, yep seeing this one on the day made my mind up about cupcakes! Plus, as I said above the fact that they all got eaten was great. I hate things getting wasted. I agree Tatty, I think i'm going to go for a normal cake on the top. x
