When we started looking we (probably rather stupidly) fell in love with the maldives, but the problem is i now have my heart set on it!!! I'm always the sensible one looking at ways to cut costs and keeping spending down, but now h2b's being the sensible one and saying how he desperatley wants to start a family after we get married and we should save for that instead!!
My argument (coming from my heart not my head) is that this is probably the only chance we'll ever get to go to the maldives and even tho it will go on the credit card i get some shares tax free released in february next year which will pretty much cover the cost of it!! And even if we start trying straight away it still might take several years for me to get pregnant!!
I'm doing so much DIY for the wedding to keep costs down so i feel like i really deserve to treat myself!!!
What do you ladies think and what would you do???
At the moment we're just leaving it til closer to the time, desperatlely hoping that costs might come down if we book it last minute!!!

Go for it, we got a credit card with 13 months interest free, and put a good chunk on that. Obviously don't be insane, but you can't go through life thinking oh we must save for this save for that, right now you only have the 2 of you to worry about, when you have kids you will never be able to go xxx

I would go for it! If I had any idea how things would turn out for me I would do so much differntly! Tescos have a 0% interest credit card for 12 months .... the best way of getting an interest free loan! Get those womanly wyles going! ha hq

I'd splurge and go for it!! h2b and I are in the same boat, we want to start very soon after we're married, we're planning on Cuba which we can't quite afford, but like you said, it's probably going to be the only time we can afford to go and I want an amazing holiday for our honeymoon!! Just do it!! x

to be honest i have a niggling feeling that maybe mil2b has put doubts in his head - she's a full on worrier - like, as if it's her full time job to have summit to worry about, and when we first mentioned it her first words were "don't they suffer tsunamis there?"..........grrrr

I'm sure you'll be able to make him see sense! You know you have the money coming to pay for it, so slap it on the old credit card and keep moving it around to interest free rate ones!
My MIL2b is the same! The woman does my head in!!

It depends if it is interest free or not. If it doesn't cost you any extra money then I can see your point but do you really want to be paying off the bill for months on end when you have a baby and your not earning your wages etc to pay it off? Its OK doing it now but can you really afford it when your not working and you have a baby to look after?

I can see your point it might be years before you get to go there but then would you feel bad if you can't afford a cot etc because you are still paying off debts.

From personal experience I wouldnt do it. Because you may get in to the habit of just putting things on the credit card becuase its so easy. Plus that money will come feb next year but u may be pregnant by then and want to spend it on baby stuff. I dont think its worth it just for a few weeks of sunshine. Yes it would be lovely, but wouldnt you rather invest in your children and future?

Having made many a mistake via the credit card in my past i wouldnt do it, it can be a slippery slope! However i do understand the need to have a well deserved break especially if you want to get pregnant, because once you have kids the romantic holidays are far and few in between! Its up to you though and i wouldnt blame you for taking a break... sounds like you deserve it :-) xx

Take the shares in Feb away from it, can you afford to pay the credit card off within 12 mths... if you can , get a 0% card and then start packing. A holiday like this is really for couples so when else would you get to go. Start packing x

i'm split we were going to get a credit card to pay for our honeymoon but got declined and i'm so glad it did. we are skint at the mo paying for bits for the wedding part of me can't wait till its over to actually have my own money back! lol
i too love the maldives but it is crazy expensive; would the credit card cover the whole cost? and just be 100% sure you can afford to pay it off. but then it will be the only time you will have a holiday like that!

    decisions decisions decsisions!!

Let me tell you what happened on our honeymoon...

First day, relaxing on the beach in Mexico. Pidge decides to play beach volleyball. Barefoot. He falls and breaks his foot.

1st cost- £70 for the resort doctor
2nd cost- £20 for the painkillers
3rd cost- £50 for ambulance to hospital
4th cost- £1500 to hospital DEPOSIT
5th cost- hospital only costs £300 (xray, translated notes, doctor etc), so we £1200 back

Of course this is all claimed back on insurance- BUT WE HAD TO PAY UPFRONT.

Moral of the story... DO NOT GO ON HONEYMOON WITH MAXED OUT CREDIT CARDS. Other patients at the hospital had had accidents like hitting head on the car, falling in the swimming pool etc.

i'd say go for it i did everything backwards lol had kids first now getting married and our honeymoon is a big problem, i would like to go without our children but my youngest is 3 and she wont stay anywhere without me so its looking like a dream holiday may be out the window, ive never been abroad and thought my first time abroad on my honeymoon would be perfect but if i have to take my 3 girls with me i doubt i'll be able to afford to go!! so i would say go for it it could be the only chance you have for a dream holiday as long as you can pay it back i can't see a problem, good luck hun xxx
