I've had my wedding dress for a while now, and without too much care have been storing it away so it didn't get damaged (or chocolated by my Children!). Unfortunately it now appears rather creased in places and despite hanging it up for a couple of weeks it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Can anyone offer me advice on how best to keep my dress crease free?

Should I take it to the dry-cleaners and have it pressed or steamed? Can I steam it myself -- I don't want to get it too wet and risk it growing mould or anything.... I'm just not sure what to do with it.

Hope someone can give me some ideas.

That's what I would do too. Speak to the dry cleaner's and ask them how long it will take, and arrange so it's back a couple of days before the big day so it doesn't get creased again xx

I was advised to hang mine up in the bathroom while I had a bath, gentle steam. Either that or dry cleaner but they are expensive. If mine is creased when I unpack it I will do the bathroom trick!

I took mine abroad in a box and it was creased when i took it out so hung it in the bath room for 4 hours shower on steaming away it got most of creases out but not all so sent it to the cleaners came back the same day ( hotel in USA) and cost $75 dollars but worth every penny to see it perfect
Depending on material i would bathroom steam it first unless u have a hand steamer then if that doesnt help get it to the cleaners but be mindful of time when my dress came back to uk it was away for 2 weeks to be cleaned xx

Sorry to hijack this thread but I bought my dress 2nd hand and my wedding isn't 'till Sep 2012.
If I'm getting my dress altered will they de-crease it? Oh when should I get alterations done? I feel right now is too soon esp if I lost weight or whatever x

mrs bentley- personally i wouldnt risk it, i dont have the best luck and mine would probably fall in the bath or something lol.

Leanne- I wouldnt have any alterations until 6 months before your wedding and then have regular fittings if your weight fluctuates. x
