I have psoriasis on my hands that I'm VERY paranoid about!! I've tried all sorts of creams, lotions and potions and nothing seems to help!! Stress doesn't help it but I'm stressing BECAUSE of my skin :(
I really don't know what to do?
The sun helps but no gaurentee there will be sun in the run down to the wedding (sun beds don't have as much UVB in then so that doesn't help) and I'm thinking my only alternative is to wear gloves but the weddings in the middle of summer!!
Oh is so supportive but I'm not happy with how it looks?!
Does anybody know a cover up to try it or some miracle cream I can try??? X

Have you asked your GP for any suggestions? I have eczema and have recently started a regime of using Doublebase gel (loads of it) at night and then putting on pure COTTON gloves before going to bed. I can't believe how much it has helped.
I know that this is completely different, but could doing something like that help, may be?

Would lace gloves be an option? That way there will still be a cooling breeze going to your hands even with the gloves on.

I'm going again on Thursday and will see what he suggests-didn't know if anyone else suffers from it and what they use to treat it so I can ask my gp!! And yes I have tried it hun,but it doesn't help really :( I'm on sea salt scrub (with some added oils in it) and dermalex (£30 over the counter cream specifically for psoriasis) but none have made a vast improvement! X

a friend of mine swears by using aloe vera gel she gets from holland and barret. think it is like £3 but it is the only thing that clears her skin up...i have the problem of psorisis on my scalp and that results inhorrendous dandruff. the only thing that clears it up is polytar but you can't get it these days and so far 5 shampoos later i flake...just have to shake my head. Try the aloevera whats the worst that can happen xx

My friend went to the doctors for hers and they have prescribed her this sunbed thing that was UVB and not as much UVA or sumat like that and it worked for her.
I'll see if i can find out what she did coz she has it all over her legs.

Can your GP not prescribe a strong topical steroid?

One of my colleagues swears by vitamin E, you can use cream and take oral capsules together, both reasonably priced from b00t$

I have psoriasis, i keep it totally under control (other than my knee cap), i get a prescription for dovabet ointment from the docs, then use alot of e45, and sunbeds. Anyone will tell you not to use them for obvious reasons but i find it keeps my skin smooth n clear. If you explain to your gp your getting married and want your skin clear he may send you for light therapy as Laura said. You can buy the uvb lights off the internet. Very expensive tho. xx

Thanks for your replies . . I've tried e45 and that hasn't touched it :( dovabet is what the doctor has last prescribed me (used it on and off for about a yr) my cousin used light treatment and it worke well for her but it was done at the hospital 3 times a week, and that's ok if you go to the college that's in the same town as the hospital on ur lunch break (you use the light for 2 mins) and without a job and child :/ but I am going to ask if there are personal ones on the NHS or I can have 1 funded etc?! And also the aloe Vera and vitimin e is definately worth a go x

Have you tried Dream Cream from Lu5h? A friend of mine has eczema and swears by it. Apparently doctors quite often recommend it to people that have tried all the usual medicated creams

G00gle 'lu5h dream cream psoriasis' there are loads of success stories

this may sound completely weird but my best friend has psoriasis and heard a little wives tale about breast milk, i thought she was crackers when i found her stealing it from my sons bottle lol it cleared it up within a few days though so after that i was more than happy to share it. Don't suppose you know any one who's pregnant or recently had a baby? xx

Not tried anything from lush (anything perfumed for me,irritates it!!) and funny enough my best friends just had a baby but she bottle fed him :/
I have been to the doctors today and been prescribed mometasone and zero base (she couldn't give me the light treatment) I've also got to go back on the 12th to see how I'm responding and if no improvement then she'll try me on something else!! Finally getting somewhere!
Thanks for all your ideas girls xx

The lush cream doesn't have any perfume in it. If you have a store near you go in and ask for a sample, explain you just want to patch test it and they'll give you some. Seriously, google it and give it a try. Or, I have a pot and can send you a sample. I'll put my email address on your wall and you send me your address. Got to be worth a try?

oh another thing i remembered is try nettle tea...apperently can be mixed with other herbal and fruit teas for desired flavour but there is something in the nettle that clears up skin conditions. Or if you have a bath maby put a few nettle tea bags in the bath xx

I have psoriasis all over my body, limbs, torso front and back, genitals, scalp - you name it psoriasis is there! Over the years (ive had it since i turned 3) I've had every single medication known to the BNF - both topical and tablet form! - Nothing has worked for more than a few days, perhaps a week at most. I've spent months upon months of time in hospital as a child over the years having intensive treatment to try and help me.

The best natural thing I've ever used is the Lush Dream Cream Sonya has been talking about. I had a herbalist friend go through the ingredients of it and there are no man made ingredients in it at all, everything is natural. (my friend even used me and dream cream as a case study for her university degree). The cream helps to take the scaly/ plaque type scabs away from my body, but it doesn't get rid of the red rash type marks.

The best medical treatment ive used is Exorex lotion, although that it is very smelly (coal tar preparation) it does help again to take away the scales but not the redness.

I have, thankfully been referred to a dermatologist again recently because i've flared up again, the worst it's been for the last 10 years, i've had extremely bad skin infection on my leg for months, which took a few courses of antibiotics to clear.

Over the years i've grown to live with my psoriasis, i now go with the attitude that its going to be a part of me for the rest of my life, there's nothing i can do to get rid of it, i can only keep it at bay, so i wear my psoriasis with pride, and so should everyone else with this confidence blasting disease!

On right sounds good then-I think my nearest lush store is norwich-a 90 mile round trip tho :/ but thank you Sonya-I'll send you my address and If it does make an improvement ill traipse over and grab a few pots! :) x

Katielea100 that's what I'm hoping,if we have sun if will improve my skin no end-but thanks for you kind words x

    Mrsthomson2b sounds interesting-will google where I can get it from,thank you x

And finally ocean,I can really sympathise with you although I only 'got' it around 6 years ago,an other than the sun it's constantly been there! My doctor has said that I might need to go down the methotrexate route again, which I'm not happy about!! (I accidently fell pregnant on it,and then miscarried my bsby because of that drug-so holds really bad memory's for me)
I absolutely hate having this, but my fiancé is so so supportive of everything and I'm gradually accepting it! the only place I'm not confident and it makes me so anxious is my hands!! I want to cover up my hands all the time and working in a shop I can't do that-really a gets me down!! I said to my gp yesterday it's my hands that cause me distress! And if I can control it on those I'd deal with the rest, but unfortunately it doesn't work like that :(
