Hi everybody! I am currently on the hunt for a wedding venue in the North East of England. H2b comes from Durham, but we are looking anywhere from North Yorkshire to Newcastle!
I need to book by Christmas (I am leaving the country) and I don't live in the area at the moment! Can anyone help me with ideas of where to look? All of my family are coming over from Australia, so my fiance and I thought it would be a nice idea to have it in a castle, or a manor/country house. We think we want the venue to be 'older' than Australia! There will be able 100 - 125 people invited.
Ideally I'd like to choose my own wine/food but I don't think that is going to happen!
    Please help me!!!

    Hi hun,

Our venue is Lumley castle in Chester le street. It's beautiful, steeped in history and still has all original features.

There's some photos on my profile.xx

I'm getting married in Northumberland at a place called Matfen Hall-absolutly stunning and would be big enough as well as having the history and being a country house.
In terms of other manor/country houses in the North East MrsField2b's suggestion is also fantastic. I have been to a weddding before at Lumley Castle and it's beautiful. You should also check out some others in Northumberland such as Slaley Hall, Linden Hall, Longhirst Hall and Doxford Hall. They all have great reputations and specialise in weddings. In terms of looks for your pictures etc I am biased and will recommend Matfen Hall (especially the great hall from the inside) but Lumley Castle and Linden Hall come a very close second xx

Thankyou MrsField2b! I sent an enquiry to Lumley Castle last night, and just got a phone call from them. They are so efficient! I have booked an appointment to go and look at that venue. And zowie, thanks for your suggestions, I'm going to have a look at those venues on the net now! x

Im getting married at Redworth Hall hotel. They have loads of fantastic room that hold from 20-200 guests. Im getting married in the great hall and it is fab. That room hold 120 I think. Pic on my profile. They have stunning ground that would be great for pictures.

Oh and the definitely do not do ceremony's at the castle I'm afraid, also forget Durham Cathedral unless you have £0000's and a close family connection. HOWEVER, you can get married at another part of Durham Uni it's the other side of the city tho.

Rooms at Durham Castle for guests start at around £90 for twin/double ensuite now
