Hi all. New to this site. Me and my partner got engage last august and now we really want to start planning our wedding for next year. I haven't the first idea on where to start first. We want to get married at our registry office and then maybe hire a function room and decorate it. Our problem is funds. We haven't really got the funds and I don't know what a rough estimate on a wedding costs. Any advice on past experience on bargainswould be a great help lol. I'm not lookin for a grand weddibg I just can't wait to be wed to the man of my dreams :). Thanks ladies

Firstly phone your Local Registry office they will discuss with you dates, cost etc, look for a venue, to keep cost down have a later wedding and then you don't need two meals, ask your venue if they supply disco and food and decor, then you need to think outfits, BHS have cheap Bridal gowns and BM dresses and PB and don't forgot good old E Bay, lots of brides on here have got many bargains from there.....hope this starts you off!!!!

Our local Debenhams has a sale on at the mo which includes some bridal-type gowns. Check out yours see if they have the same. Also, do a search through the forum for the bargains thread, there's a lot of things to be found in there x

costs are mostly down to how many guests you want. we have a hotel our way that will do the whole day for £999 including ceremony, wedding breakfast for 40 guests in the day and buffet for 60 guests in the evening. we're not using this package because we want more guests. we're having a fair budget of £3000 to cover wedding breakfast for 70 guests, evening buffet, disco etc. dresses, suits, rings, church... but the biggest chunk of the budget is for food - nearly £2000 - obviously this could be cut down if we had less guests. Best starting place is therefore to decide how many guests you want and then ring round possible venues to get an idea about whether this is within your budget. good luck xxx

Have a look at a thread called "a brides checklist" as this has everything you need to do plan buy and hire for a wedding!
Then work out how much you can afford to save each month between now and the wedding and this will be your budget. After that come on here for lots of ideas and money saving tips and search the bay for some bargains.

Good luck hunni like the girls say there are quite a few ladies on here with 1k budgets so it is possiable it just depends what you want.

It depends how handy you are. I'm making my own wedding dress and my daughter's bridesmaid dress. I'm not particularly talented, but my mum is and I have her to guide me. I got the pattern for just £3.00 and material is going to be around £85 in total.
We're getting married in the afternoon on a Friday in a registry office, which will be £67 for notice and then £125 for the room. We're then having a bbq reception at a local club, which we will decorate the day before with bits no pieces I'm picking up from Ikea and ebay. Including the food and all in, I'm aiming at £2000 absolute tops.
