I've heard in the news that the cost of a church ceremony is going up to £400 (over £100 increase), does anyone know that if i booked it before the price hike, they still honour the old price like normal vendors do????
If not need to add into my ever decreasing budget!!

    Thanks!

If you've got the price in writing you should only pay what they've written down. If it's all verbal and they've not told you about any price increases then they can't suddenly just add it on surely? A friend who is getting married in church has had little extras piled on even though she's not using some of the services! I think she's getting ready to cancel the church service as they're charging her for an organist even though she's not using them, and for the flower ladies even though they're not providing flowers! talk about ripping people off!

I thought the church I was going to would be about £350sh, but we've found out that ours is in the range of £600 big shock really, depends on your area and what your church decides there fee is, we won't know now till march next year as that is when the price come out for that year, so to ur question you will have to pay the price that the church wants u to pay the year you get married xx

I'm not sure about churches but we booked our registrar last month and it the letter it said that prices will rise in April and if your wedding is after then the cost will go up. Maybe churches are the same? It seems unfair as with vendors if you book early you normally save money.

we're havinga civil ceremony and the registrar was lovely, she gave us the price and warned us it was going up in april. She did however say if we paid in full before April then we wouldn't have to pay the increase! bonus :) x

Yeah I know how u feel tikobear, mines in May, stupid prices there charging can't quite believe that we have to pay so much, we don't get a choice to pay it beore hand we pay it when they tell us 2 :( but my sil2b is getting married in July this year and she's only paying £150 for her church and a friend of mine in the same city but different church is paying £800 for her church, so I think really depends where u live, I live in bristol and sil2b lives in bolton, gr Manchester xx

We were given the price list last year but told at the time that they may well increase in the next year, and as we don't pay until the rehearsal we'd have to pay the new prices. Got the new prices last week:

    Calling of banns: 22
    Marriage service: 262
    Marriage certificate: 3.50

    Church upkeep: 25
    Organ: 25
    Organist: 60
    Verger: 25
    Choir (optional): 100

    Total without choir: 422.50
    Total with choir: 522.50

    Bells (optional)
    Fabric fund (maintenance etc): 30
    Ringers (non-Saturday): 120
    Ringers (Saturday): 90

The prices for items apart from the cost of the service itself vary from church to church :-)

ours is already way above what the average is going to be, ours was £458 last year but we were warned that it would increase this year to closer to £500 so we have budgeted £550 and thats without a choir and without bells or anything!

the hotel was £300 room hire (in the room we've already hired which i found odd) and then the local registrar was £500 so its cheaper to go with the church plus its where all my OH family have been married so it means something to him

My church was booked last year for wedding 27/07/2013. It was 535 not including any extras and we were told at the time it was going up this year and to expect to pay more.

Ours is costing £750 - luckily my mum is very involved with the church and does alot of fundraising for them so been reduced to £350 as the ringers are not charging us and got discount.

    lol @ lilmisschuckles!

I can't believe how much the prices varies from church to church (from reading the above)! I've emailed my vicar so hopefully she'll let me know, we are getting married in a CofE so maybe the price will be in the £300 bracket still!
I know we have to pay extra for bell ringers, organist etc, but I'[m hoping to possibly get a doscount on the bells as we've befriended one of them so maybe...just maybe...they'll give us a discount!! haha!
I'm also getting married the week after Easter, so hoping to ask them to leave the Easter flowers in the church so i don't need to buy any!! (super scrimper here!!)

    Fingers crossed!

    :)

Guys, it's the legal bit from the church that will charge the £400 everything else is charged on top, eg. at the moment our whole ceremony come to £400, but £65 of that is the organist, £29 goes to the parish, £22 is banns, and your marriage certificate is £3.50 and I'm sure I've forgotten something as the fee set by the church this year is about £265. So it's a big hike of at least £135 on top of todays prices.

Plus we were told that our price was unlikely to increase this year but it went up £35 and then we were told that because the church isn't where we live we also had to pay for banns to be read in our parish which is £22 plus £12 for the certificate. There are always hidden costs so be careful x

I am getting married in a cof e church and last years price was £550 for church, bells and organist. It would be extra for flowers and for the choir but we want neither, the church is gorgeous without extra flowers(they always have 2 displays regardless) and we will have to rely on our friends and family for the singing(o'h dear) I hope the price hasn't gone up too much but won't find out until we see the vicar in the summer. xxx

I'm getting married in church of england.
The total price for our church is £1,012. This includes all legal fees, verger, 20 mins of bells, choir, organist, preparation days and flowers (2x stands at altar, 1x big basket on wall and 2x wall displays outside).
It is quite expensive but so worth it, the church is beautiful and its our wedding :)

The vicar did say yesterday (we went for a prep day) about the price rises for next year. Luckily this doesn't affect us as ours is this year but there were some panicked brides!! Vicar said legal fees are going up 40%, so from £299 to around £430 and the other church prices would be going up as they haven't increased for years.

    Good luck everyone x
