The hotel we have booked for our reception states in it's info pack that they do not allow corkage. Thing is, a friend of ours is a partner in a wine company and we could get a really good deal on our wine from him.
I'm going to ask if we could bend the rules and take our own wine for the meal, but has anyone tried this before and succeeded? Or is it a waste of time trying to negotiate anything?
CommentAuthorLynz_9
It's worth asking, but they might make it expensive so it is cheaper to go with the hotel xx

We were going to pay corkage at our first venue even tho they also first told us they didnt do corkage. We would then take a trip to france and buy cases of wine and champagne, but when they provided us with their corkage charges which were truly extortionate we didnt bother. Hope you get a better deal if you are able to talk your venue round. xx

Even if you do get it, you might not save any money. But your right, if you don't ask you don't get.

One venue we looked at wanted to charge a 'cakeage' fee (not a typo)! As my sister is making our cake I felt this was utterly proposterous! They wanted £4pp. I negotiated this with them and they said their resoning behind this is that if we have our own cake, then we were likely not to have desert. Once we said that we would want desert, they said they'd waiver the charge. Maybe you could negotiate a deal with them - being your own bubbly but have their wine and soft drinks? Worth a shot x
Vegas baby!

We found that it was cheaper to have the wines that were supplied by the venue because corkage, especially for sparkling wine and champagne, was rediculous. Think they were charging £17.95 per bottle of champagne in some places!
To be fair you can negotiate with hotel wedding venues usually. Hope they come round to it! Best of luck :) xxx

we are paying corkage at £10 per bottle which at first sounded a lot but then i got the old calculator out and were saving 500 doing that instead of there cheapest drink packageas you can get good deals on wine like buy 6 bottles get 25% off! at marks
CommentAuthor*KelBel*
yeah our corkage is 7.95 per bottle of still wine and 9.95 for sparkling, but their drinks packages for wine start at £12.95 so we thought it'd be easier to go with them x

Our venue charges corkage per person rather than per bottle but until I have my menu meeting with them in a few weeks I am not sure how much their bottles costs so will do some calculating then.
I definitely think you should always try and negotiate though.

As we're not having a free bar for our evening reception, we were thinking of having having miniture rum bottles as our wedding favours as a kind of "free drink" for our guests. Has anyone thought about doing this? And do you think we will be charged a corkage fee from our venue?
CommentAuthorTrish Goddard
Our venue was gonna charge us £10 a bottle on corkage. but we was looking on there website a few weeks ago, and just happened to see my website on full display.. so i emailled them asking if they would kindly remove it as i had been recieving some strange emails.. they apologised and has said the corkage is now free!! So we have saved nearly £300

Lucky you, for wine my venue is charging the price of their cheapest bottle as corkage, which is £19 per bottle! Likewise, for champagne it will be £49 corkage and so on for spirits. I don't want to draw their attention to the fact that we might bring our own minatures but as they're gifts, I was hoping to get away with having minatures as favours
CommentAuthoralmostmrswood
Corkage is usually to cover the cost of chilling bottles and serving the drinks so if mini bottles are being given as gifts, there shouldn't be any extra work for the staff. It's not your fault if your guests open and consume their gifts on the premises........
CommentAuthoralmostmrswood
I'm definately giving minitures if my bidget can stretch to it.
CommentAuthorBeskiboo
My friend had minitures as favours worked out really well apart from the venue putting them on the kids table, I only noticed it because one of the kids had a miniature Gordon's in their mouth ( thankfully none of them got them open)

Lol like there isn't enough to be worrying about without having to check things like that!
CommentAuthorhjl2001uk
No corkage charge for me! We asked our caterer and he said he would chill and serve the wine for free and when we were pleased he suddenly realised he could've made more money cos we were obviously expecting to pay some corkage. Tough, you've agreed now Mr!
