Having read through our wedding menus to get ready for our meeting with the venue I'm undecided what to do with drinks. Their corkage fee is £9 per bottle or £10.50 for sparkling wine. But their drinks package is £17 per person for their cheapest drinks on arrival, sparkling wine to toast & bottle of wine on table. Which ones gonna be cheapest???? It's so confusing!!

When you say a bottle of wine on the table - how many is that between. You need to find out exactly what you are getting per head and then you can roughly work out what it would cost you to do it yourself. x

Oh tell a lie, just checked. It's a glass of bucks fizz on arrival, a glass of wine with meal and a glass of sparkling wine for toast for £17 per head...

You would get 6 servings per bottle therefore to work out the three drinks

    17 x 6 = £102

    Take corkage 10.5 + 10.5 + 9 = £30

    102 - 30 = £70

70 /3 = £23 per bottle to break even or if you spent less per bottle it would be even cheaper. I would pay corkage Hun and you could even having sparkling wine instead of bucks fizz for arrival drinks xx

For fifty people, you would be paying £850 with the drinks package.

Saying six glasses per bottle, you'll need nine bottles.

So for a welcome fizzy wine, corkage would be £94.50, same again for the toast.

And for the dinner drink, £81, so total corkage would be £271.

    Corkage does sound better xx

Try that cheap supermarket beginning with a and ending with i. My friend used to work there and she used to get wine connoisseurs going in saying they couldn't believe they stocked the wines and especially at the prices. I know they do a nice Rioja and you probably can't go wrong with a nice reserve in White. Also look for prosecco instead of champers x

Would it be even cheaper for you to ask the reception venue to scrap the wine and Buck's Fizz etc? You could ask for a bar price list and give all your guests 2 or three drinks tokens each on arrival or place them at the tables beside the favours or whatever. This gets rid of the corkage charge and people can order whatever drink they want with their meal.

I don't know if that would be cheaper or not, but it might be worth looking into.

you will have to find out how much wine per person for the table we are having half a bottle of wine each person with arrival drinks and glass of prosecco water on the table and it works out more cheaper than corkage . from then on every one will by there own drinks xx

I have spoken to my venue about corkage as I was trying to work this out the other day and it absolutely shocked me for what they charge
    £15 per bottle on wine
    £20 per bottle on sparkling
She said they do this as to stop other people bringing their drinks
which I understand but that is ridiculous!!!!
I only wanted to do that so I could have less wine and more bucks fizz ^_^

Linzi-Jo that's an amazing price. Our venue doesn't allow corkage and I can understand why for the price but if it was that good I would defo go for it x
