I didnt think about it as an option thinking it would be overly expensive and didnt like the thought of not having all our family/friends there but then reading on here that someone was getting married/having honeymoon while abroad and then having a reception for other family/friends when they got back...Im now seeing this as a possible option!?!

Where do I start?? Ive been searching possible locations, which will be cheaper but still amazing? I was thinking barbados/carribean/maldives but then Im not rich! haha

I HIGHLY recommend it, but then I would say that, right?! We did 5 nights at the MGM Grand in a bungalow suite then 4 nights 'on the road' where we hired a Harley Davidson and went up to the Grand Canyon (stayed one night there and did a sunrise tour, which was incredible) then back to Vegas for 2 nights to stay at the Four Seasons in a suite there.
Then we did a blessing in our local park for very close family and friends, then a reception in our local restaurant where we had a buffet, cake cutting, first dance, DJ reception type thing for 80 people.
All of that, including all the wedding outfits for everyone, came in at less than ten grand. We really would have struggled to do that in the UK, particularly in London.
The Vegas part was pretty much stress free and it was the London bit that we found had the most stress, which only highlighted for us, that we did the right thing for us.

    Hey hun,

It's half the price of getting married here, I did the sums & that's what made my final decision for doing it abroad & family pushing me over the edge lol!

You can have the best of both worlds with a weddingmoon then a party/blessing/celebration when you get home :-)

Ooo the carribean, are very nice! St.Lucia, Jamaica or Cuba?? are a few x

It's a good idea, having a reception for other family and friends when you get back, providing you can afford it I suppose. I never would have thought of that to be honest!

If you're thinking of Caribbean then a lot of resorts offer special wedding packages. I've been to Barbados and St Lucia and on both times there were weddings in the hotels. You only need to be on the island for a few days before hand and the hotel pretty much does everything for you!
If you PM me i'll give you the name of the tour operator ;) x

we're getting married in cyprus and it's been quite simple to arrange myself. originally we just wanted to go away with the kids and then have a party for everyone back home, but some of my family and friends wanted to come and the same for h2b's family. so we're having a few people over there and having a relaxed bbq reception by the pool. the party back home is about to be booked (hopefully in the next few weeks!!) and that should be a BLAST!!

something i have been toying with, is having a very small blessing at the recpetion just so everyone back here can see us saying vows.

you should really look into it. even if it ends up not for you :)

    good luck!!

    Another Cyprus bride2b! lol
Our original UK wedding was going to cost us around £8-£10k possibly more.
Our Cypriot wedding is costing us £4-£5k which includes flights/accomodation and food/drink/transport etc for 46 family and friends that are joining us over there.

We have not long since moved so we would never have been able to afford a honeymoon at present so this way we get 2 weeks holiday on top.

There has only been 1 drawback for me. 3 of my family are not able to attend as they have different health issues, 1 would not be allowed to fly, 1 is awaiting an operation so can't go in case he's called for and the other's insurance premium would be so high it's ridiculous. We are getting around this by having a blessing/renewal of vows next year so that I have my whole family there.

On the off chance you have a family member that may not be able to travel, it is worth addressing early in your planning, if that person is essential to your day being special.

My one negative out of the way.....I could sit here all day and list the positives. lol

Ive worked out that the main people I want there and have had an agreement, My mum, BM's (2 sisters and SIL2B) MOH's (2 best friends) FG's (My neice (6) and Goddaughter (2) and PBS my son (6) MOH son (4) My MOH's partners Jon and Richard will be there and also my BMs partners Bryn, Shaun and Sam-They are all definately going to be there-Including myself and H2B. So that is 18 people going so far

Unsure 100% as of yet but

My aunty has she said she will come-shes a hairdresser so thats our hairs sorted! It will mean her partner and my 2 cousins will be there. (7) (16) (If she does come her daughter will also be a FG not to leave her out-but my aunty will buy her dress)

Havent sorted with H2B's family YET.

But Its DEFINATELY going ahead abroad Ive made my mind up.
