I have been thinking about colours for bridesmaids / venue etc and as it is December I am hoping for a winter wonderland style theme. I thought white, Robin Egg (a very pale blue in the Alf A colour scheme), Once Upon A Time (a tad darker) and silver.
I got thinking though and wondered what the traditional colours and flowers were for a winter wedding?
My problem is that I live in Manchester and I am sure most will have heard of Man UTD and Man City. The rivalry can be quite tense. Anyway me and my family are Utd fans so I am not sure that going for a pale blue (City colour) will be such a good idea. Do you think it matters? I know it is my day and if I want that colour then stuff anyone who tries to be sarcy but it is on my mind.
My H2B hates football and couldn't give a monkeys so will think I am being daft if I bring it up.
I will be doing a speech as there is no father of the bride. Maybe I could put a joke in there about it? Or attach a Man U badge or something to my garter or something?? Sorry I have waffled a bit about a silly football dilema xx

winter colours are golds, silver and the gold tends to go with your greens and red, either or both with lots of white ...snow ..lol and the silver id say goes from more the winter wonderland different tones of blues .. so you could have a selection of different blues running from icey blue thru to navy blue so that it would look so manchester city inspired and lots of bling to represent ice.. my h2b is a man u fan and im having a winter wedding to but in nov of next year ... but reguardless of season i would be happy just to have an all black and white wedding but red is my h2b fave colour (manu) so i have included the colour into our scheme so i know how you feel lol... boody football...lol but go with what ever you want to hunny .. it yours and h2b day after all xx
looking forward to being Mrs Embo :)

If i was having a winter themed wedding i personally would go with white or ivory and crystal. I think it looks elegant, wintery and classy, i wouldnt want to add colour to it,

if u wanted colour, i would keep it really neatral, maybe a steel grey blue, or an icy tiffany blue. but this is just my personal preference ....go mad with crystal accents and make it look really sparkly x

I completely understand, my h2b and I support Plymouth Argyle -came with the family, I'd be disowned if I didn't ha ha- and we wanted to get married in Plymouth but that we couldn't afford that as we are 2hrs away from there I have have family in the north. My H2B really wanted the bridesmaids in Argyle green but I put my foot down because I don't like it, its too bottle green, so since ours is a December wedding we're having luxurious and sumptuous reds, blacks and dark greys, with lots of feathers -very Chicago or Moulin Rouge in the colours. We're having two new shirts printed up for the photos, mine will say MRS WELCH 12 on the back -no more little miss googoo eyes girl making eyes at my man any more ha ha. But I think even though the colours you like are technically 'man c' colours, most people will look past it and see it for what it is -winter colours, if done right people won't comment and if they do then ignore them, its your day have the colours you want. I know how much tension is between the clubs in the area they can be very harsh, maybe test the waters with your footie friends and family and say what would you do if you wanted this colour for your wedding a would you do it or stick to neutral non football colours to keep the peace? Hope it gets sorted out. xx

I am also having a winter wedding, we are going with ivory and sage (light green) with some hunter green (slightly darker). We are also have just a few red berries dotted around the place. I think the blues are lovely and if you add some touches like snowfalke table dec's people may not even notice!
(I have a ManU mad boss so i know just how bad this rivalry can get!)
I've seen some lovely centrepieces for Winter Weddings, martini glasses with what looks like Frosted Baubles in the top? It looked really effective! Deffo lots of sparkle, and i'd say white and silver and I would also have an icy blue too if it was me.When everything is put together people probably wouldnt even link the blue to Man City! When you are organising something i think you tend to over-analyse every tiny detail when in fact people attending your wedding will probably see it as the winter wonderland you set out to create rather than the colour of their football rivals :-) xx
Together: 9th June 2007

if your H2B is not worried about the colour scheme then go for the blue as its the colour you love at the end of the day its a wedding not a football match x

me and h2b have this football rivalry all the time. im a birmingham city support and he's an aston villa supporter. cant get worse theat lol. and both of us are realy big supporters too so when it came to the colours we really had a fight lol. but honestlt...whatever colour u have its part of a football team and 9 times out of ten someone in the room is going to like or dislike that team and u cant please everybody. but i think if u mixed the colour u want with another colour its not so bad. say if u really wanted pale blue you could mix it with silver that way they cant say its man city lol x
also wold have been nan and grandads anniversary

Thanks everyone. Some lovely ideas too, thank you. I have found a Man U garter lol, tacky as hell but it will be a talking point. I am going to stay with my idea of pale blue and silver and if anyone is small minded enough to think it is footie related then they can bog off! xx
