My MIL has told me to get some highlights or something put in my hair to brighten it up a bit for the wedding, her treat!! How soon before the wedding is best? I haven't dyed my hair in years, so have no clue.

If there is one bit of advice I have been told is never make any big appearance changes unless you have ample time before the wedding to correct it.
I dye my hair every month chocolate brown (I am naturally dirty blonde/grey) because my roots tend to grow quick.
The main question though is... do you WANT to change your hair this close to the wedding? are you happy with how it is? Are you considering changing it only because your MIL is asking you and offering to pay?

I used to highlight my hair (diy at home job) for years & loved it, my hair seemed brighter! Whereas now it just looks kind of dull. I had a bad hair dye experience 4 years ago which resulted in a lot of my hair falling out, I haven't touched dye since, I'm to scared to. I think she's nicely trying to encourage me to try it again as she knows I loved it.

Speak to a hair colourist and see what they say and let them know of your past experience and concerns and they will advise you accordingly :)

I wouldn't do it too close to wedding as u want to allow time for it to settle maybe 4days to a week before hand but depends how fast ur hair grows ect, I would speak to a hairdresser and see what they advice and only do it IF its something you want to do. I plan on having mine done 2 days before wedding so its all fresh and my hair grows quickly plus I love how it looks as soon as its been done :) x
Would it be better if I get it done asap & then get a root touch up closer to the wedding?

I had highlights in my hair for my wedding. Had them done in October just to see what it looked like and get used to it. Had it done regularly (half head or full head depending on what was needed) then had full head done week before the wedding

i used to colour my hair but then got fed up of having roots done etc so been back at my natural colour for couple of years now. I went to my hair dressers the other week and had a gloss put on. It is basically a clear colour that will last for a couple of weeks they have said. It doesnt change your colour but gives it a shine and looks really fresh and healthy. Just another option if your worried about changing so close to wedding x

I'd suggest going to a good reputable salon and get some advice from them. Are you sure you want to have highlights?

I started having highlights last September so I could decide how far I wanted to go by the wedding, I used to be very blonde as a kid but in more recent years it had gone a more dusty blonde and very dark underneath, so I've been essentially getting my childhood blonde back ;)
