Im getting married roughly 40 mins from my home town and we initially thought most of the day guests would be fine to stay overnight nearby or arrange transport back between themselves and we gave them extra notice and a list of local accomodation so that they could arrange/save. However... we have booked a coach for the evening guests to bring them and take them back home. Its costing a lot as it is but we figured as they're only coming for the evening we couldnt not arrange transport.... Now that some of the day guests have heard this they have asked if they donate a few quid can they hop on the coach back too, but we have only booked one coach enough for the evening guests and cant afford another coach as that would bring the total transport cost to nearly £1000!!! I have been to a few weddings and most of them didnt fork out to transport all of their guests to and fro.... am i being unreasonable?

i dont think ur being unreasonable hun we were gonna do the same for night time guests but if they all chipped in what they would pay for taxi's they could hire 1 between them as the wedding is costing an arm and a leg to start with without additional costs to ferry every1 else around xx
31st August 2013 I became Mrs Carrick
Cant wait to do it all over again in 2018

You should try for a small bus company - there is a local bus company in my town called Dicksons and they run buses from my wee town to Glasgow. They have given us a 30 seater for £180 there&back. All the other coach companies were a ridiculous price

were not laying on buses as well it is expensive, but what weve told folks i that we will get the big 8 seater taxis and give the drivers 20 and they could add to it, guests are fine with that as most of them are a 15-20 min taxi ride from the venue so the 20 will cover it. plus weve done it so folk from saltcoats get one, folk from irvine get one etc. plus dad know majority of his lot will drive anyway as its a pain getting to it using local transport (they stop after 6pm) xxx
All the ways of my life id rather be with you.
Theres no way without you.

If i could have a minibus i would but i need roughly 40 seats for the day guests which costs much more. My fiance thinks im over worrying and trying to hard to please everyone. We have been invited to a wedding soon thats not in our home town and they havent put any transport on for anyone so maybe its not a necessity these days?
We're hiring a bus but it's effectively for the whole day - so to take guests from the church to reception it was 425 - however, I phoned up asking if we could have a shuttle run to pick up guests at multiple hotels to take them to church, and this is only an additional 50 on top as we have the bus already. Maybe you could at least ring up the bus company and ask what they would quote you for 2 trips to take people home? You could be surprised!

Thats a good idea bridalmiss.. i will ask them and maybe they can do a cheaper deal for two coaches. Worth asking i guess!

I think it's a lot to pay. I'm a bit of tight a**e my self and up to me I wouldn't pay for it. Where we might be having our wedding, the hotel is a 5 min drive up the road. Could really be walked in 15 mins and in May I don't see why it should be a problem. But my mum has said we should hire a taxi for an hour to go back and forth between the 2. I think there will only be about 20 who will stop anyway.

most ppl dont put transport on for their guests. i never did with my 1st wedding as it was in the town we lived in so every1 coudl get there and to the venue. this time around im not sure where we are getting married yet lol so we may put on transport but it all comes down to money to be honest

Could you maybe get a double decker coach or even one of those red double decker buses?
