    Hi Girls,

Trying to sort the coach hire out for my evening guests. Its around 40-45 minute drive from our town to the venue. I've just been quoted £320 to hire a coach that seats 30 people!!!

Is it just me or is that extortionate? What should I be looking to pay? I really didnt think it would cost that much.

We got a quote a while ago because we were thinking of putting on a mini bus, decided against it in the end. But we got quotes for mini buses which I think worked out around £150 for 2 14 seater minibuses for a 50-55 minute drive.
I'd say thats seems a bit on the exspensive side so keep shopping around :)

Yep, mine would be going from Paisley town centre to the hotel and back. 320!! Thats a lot of money isnt it! That was my first quote though. Trying to think if I ordered taxis it might actually be cheaper! lol

If you need any tips on other stuff just ask :-) found a fab wee woman from Balloch to do my cupcake tower for £150.

Aww thanks hun - we have provisionally reserved a date for 2013 and going up to view it when my other half gets back from working in Oz.

We are still not 100% positive if we are making right choice (other being Oz but if its Oz it will have to be even further away and he isnt keen on waiting as it is)

You might find even some of the evening guests will want to stay at the hotel but I think a lot of people are scrapping the provision of transport for guests as its just such an expense.

It is a massive expense but I am worried that if we dont provide transport they wont be able to come over. A lot of the evening guests dont drive and will want to have a drink and cos its £45 a night to stay over at the hotel I think they would just not come if there was no coach. All the folk who can drive or are staying over are invited to the whole day. Its mainly gunna be the drinkers coming later on. I was considering asking the folk if they could help pay towards a coach. Like maybe £5 each....I thought that was a bit cheeky though....

We have been quoted £320 also for a 45 min drive but that is for a 73 seater, so I'm sure you could get it cheaper

Yeah, they have to cover the running of the vehicle, fuel, and any staff on board e.g driver, conductor - any vehicle for part of a day would effectively be booked for the whole day, as we've got a double decker for 80 for a 2 mile journey and it's 425 - and that was a competitive price!

Maybe ask a taxi firm to use a couple of minibuses, or look into a train perhaps plus taxi's to the stations either end? Depends how many guests you have...or, you could look into hiring a minbus and getting a friend insured to drive it instead?

Best thing to do is get a few quotes and see how it works out.
Dont forget though that a lot of time evening guests all come and go at different times.
Before doing anything id get confirmation of who would be interested in transport - then put to them that you have quotes etc but i think you can get more than £5 each. If people realise they can get a £30-£40 journey for £10 they are happy to pay that £10!

Thats true, one of my bridesmaids said it wouldnt bother her to pay towards the coach hire. I should ask around first of all. I just hoped it would be about £150...I am thinking a taxi minibus might be a good idea.....Its only £30 odds in a taxi. I need to do more research. I've emailed loads of places but I never seem to get replies :-(

hey dont know if this would work but my mil2b phoned for us for a quote for a bus to take passengers around ayrshire home after the reception. she never mentioned it was for a wedding but said it was a private function and we got price down from 320 to 260. i know its not much but the fact she never mentioned wedding may of been an advantage.

i have booked it and includes 6 stops which would roughly be about 1 to 2 hrs driving for 260....not bad i think!!

gonna have another go with other companies see how much i can get it down lol

Yeah I have found the same thing; it's really expensive. We have been quoted £325 by about every coach hire firm and that's for approx 25 people, which means that we need more seats than a mini-bus offers. And that's for three pick up points to our venue for the ceremony and the same return journey once the day is over. I was going to split the cost between whoever chooses to use it but as families are coming then I've asked a mere £14.00 per adult instead, as we have decided to pay half ourselves. Maybe if we don't get as much response as we think then a mini-bus might do. Hoping so!

We got a quote thru a coach broker (basically they go round all the companies and get you the most competitive deal) it was £235 for a 50 seater for a single journey at the end of reception to take the guests home. I can post the website on your wall if you like x
