Are there readings done at Civil ceremonies? I really want to read one of Shakespeare's sonnets to George on our day as we both love the work and there's one that I feel is perfect! :)

as long as there are no religious references you can have pretty much what you want :)

Aww thanks girls. I really want to do it, not just the vow bit, but something that really says how I feel! :) ...
Though I suppose singing the first dance might do that for him. ... oh I don't know. Too much to think about! and Wayyy too much time.

Readings and songs are good but check with your registrar how long it can all be, some are a little fussier than others. Also you'd be surprised which words they will label as religious, so get a comprehensive list!
I've got a long list of Shakespeare to decide from for mine :)

What happens if you pick something that just says something that could be interpreted as religious although it depends on how its context is taken???
The days are flying by, can't wait :)

Civil Ceremonies are now allowed a certain amount of religious content, there was an article about it not so long ago.. someone posted a thread on here about it ;o)
Do not disturb... Already disturbed enough!

It all depends which one... ours still says no no to that :)
Best asking your local registry office :)

I think the allowed bit covers things like Robbie Williams 'Angels' and other references to such things in popular culture.
