    hello ladies and gents

we have just moved our wedding back 5 months so its now 3rd march 2013. i have a question about venue and registrar.

we want to book the venue but are wondering when you book the registrar?
worried i will book the venue then they won 't be anybody to marry us.

what is the correct way to do this?

our venue told us not to worry about that as there used to be 3 people to do ceremonies but now theres 9 due to increase in civil ceremonies. we paid our holding deposit to venue and now we have to contact them in october this year once we have given our notice and booked the registrar so we can have a time to give the venue for the wedding to start. im still going to be ringing the registry office at 9am on 27th october this year to make sure i get in there first for 27 oct next year xx

you can provisionally book with SOME but not all registrars it depends on how strict they are, some will hold the date but if you dont contact them on the 3rd March 2012 then they can give it to someone else, so my advice is to contact your registrar and ask them preferably in person as this is more personal and you can try to get your concerns across a bit easier, tells them that your venue is booked for some dates in that year already and you are worried that if you leave it much longer then they will not be available, ask if its possible to have the date written in the back of their diary and that you will call them 9am or make an appointment to see them 9am on 3rd march 2012 to give your notice and book that day.

You dont get if you dont ask

I would ring the local office that covers the area of your venue and ask what their policy is for pre booking times and dates as some let you and others don't.

I hadn't thought of that! Me and my h2b are having a civil ceremony, and the order in which to book them never occurred to me haha, so thanks for asking otherwise I'd have got to booking it all and panicked!

we are having a civil ceremony and the earliest you can book the registrar is 12 months to the day you want to get married at 9am. we have booked our venue and paid the deposit and we will ring up to book our registrar april next year :)

We've already booked our venue for 2014. I called the register office and they won't provisionally book dates, the earliest we can book is 12 months in advance after we've given notice. I was panicking because we've already booked the venue, but obv a lot of brides will be in the same boast, as loads of people book their venues more than 12 months in advance. The lady I spoke to assured me that I will be able to get a registrar and not to worry, so fingers crossed!

Personally I think it's a very old-fashioned system in need of a serious overhaul...
