Yes you do, if you google church weddings you should find the CofE website where they list the minimum legal cost for a church wedding - could well cost more though depending on the church and what you want. Ours will cost over £600

That's for CofE - I don't know how it stands with the Catholic church, and I recall that it's different in Scotland too x

Ours was £550 last year, now £662 this year. Its increased a lot but I beleive on average the increases are no where near what our church is charging, and I beleive the average is between £400 - £600 xx

thanks, we were going to just get married in a hotel but if we can gat the cost down by having a church wedding, then we will. the only thing about getting married in a ctaholic church is that all my side of the family are born again christians and would hate and dont know if they would even come. plus im not christened so would have to get christened catholic.

We decided that the cost of our church against the costs of the marriage license, registrars fees and ceremony hire fees for a civil ceremony were comparable and we would much rather have a church ceremony than civil. I think it's personal choice tbh :)

I was horrified at how much it costs to get married in a cofe church. Ours is £600 but should go up slightly as getting married in 2012 (Dreading that!! I hope it doesnt go up like yous stevie_dee). In our area it would have worked out cheaper for a civil ceremony but H2B wants to get married at that particular church. You should be able to cut costs though by not havin a choir or bells etc.

im glad im in scotland, the registry office was only working out about 30£ cheaper, and to have it in our venue around £200 dearer. So we went with the option that looks the nicest and costs less. - church :D. (the registry office doesn't have the character i like in a building, and the savoy was £200 dearer)

I am catholic and getting married in Church and from what I read and have been told it is supposed to be a donation, what do you think is appropriate to give in that case?

I think our church wedding is costing around £517, up from about £450 last year. It is still a lot cheaper than having a ceremony elsewhere and having a registrar coming out to marry you which can cost around £400 and then the venue room hire cost. The cheapest way being registry office but that isn't my cup of tea at all. We would do it if there was no other way of doing it but thankfully my in laws to be have offered to pay for the church, lovely people! :)
