Does anyone know what the vicar actually asks for as proof that you live in the parish? Basically my other half was brought up by the church that we are looking at getting married in, but we now live in Dartford temporarily while I'm at college. The vicar has said she is only willing to marry people who are actually living in her parish or have done the 6-month thing. Thing is, if we need to start attending (which is not a problem in theory, but a lot of hassle and petrol to drive up from here every Sunday!) I would rather do it at a church which has a proper aisle for me to walk down! He still has bank details and a few other bits registered at his mother's address, so if thats all that is required we will be ok. Do they look at the electoral roll or anything though??

But she'll bring out the best and the worst you can be
Blame it all on yourself 'cos she's always a woman to me.."

Currently at his mothers - we have just had the form through the door to update it to this address though! I dont want to move out of here when the rent contract ends in June and have to start again with the church!

Keep him registered at his mothers and its official address. If hes a student, and not working, its fine to do that.

He works full time :/ and his work has the Darford address on record. I'm a student but there arent any CofE churches in my mother's parish. Oh the hassle lol.

Is the church in his mum's parish then? If so, the church rules state that he can get married there without all this - take a look at My Church Wedding, the official CofE website, they have the list of 7 ways to marry in a church that's not in your parish. They also have a handy locator so that you can put in your mum's postcode to find which CofE church is for her local parish x

Yeah I just noticed that rule on the CofE site, thing is though she was really adamant we couldnt get married unless one of us currently lived there, I guess I could argue the point with her but I'd rather keep her sweet and try to do it the way she wants! I also found my mother's church, but its in a really rough area, it doesnt bother me cos I was brought up there or thereabouts, but hubby to be is a bit nervous of the place, so he'd really prefer his own (mother's) parish! Thanks ladies x

You will need to have either lived in the parish for 6 months and attended regularly, been baptised or confirmed there, parents have married in the church, parents attend regularly or live in the parish, you can marry there if u havent depending on the church, however you need to apply for a licence takes a while and costs about £100

My parents were never married, my other halfs parents had a civil ceremony, neither of us were baptised and all our grandparents are from Wales and Scotland, so none of the other connections work for us, looks like I am going to be up early on Sunday mornings from now on! lol x
