Hello everyone. I'm after advice if anyone has any. I'm getting married in 9 days! Our wedding rehersal is in 7! I found out a couple of days ago that our vicar has to go to hospital and cannot take our service. I found out through small town gossip!! I have now spoken to him and the gossip is true. I have been told not to worry someone else will do the service but as of yet I don't know who and what makes it worse is neither do they! Apparently too many weddings and not enough vicars!

What happens if no one else is available? Can they cancel my wedding? Our honeymoon is booked for the day after the wedding! I am so stressed about the whole wedding - everyone keeps letting me down and pushing me to one side! Even my dress isn't finished!!!!

I have no doubts about the man I am marrying and really looking forward to marrying him but its everyone else making this a living nightmare for me!

I hope no one else is having to go through this but if you do have any knowledge on the subject or can offer advice it would be very much appreciated! I feel completely alone in all of this!

    Gemma

Try to relax. I'm sure they are trying their best to contact every vicar in the area.

Have you got wedding insurance? If for some reason they HAVE to cancel (and being honest..they can) if you have insurance, they will cover the cost of you rescheduling your wedding. I have never heard of this happening before and I have everything crossed that it all works out well for you xxx

aww hun, firstly sit down and take a deep breath. a wedding wouldnt be a wedding if there wasnt a cetain ammount of stress to go with it, but it sounds like you hve been given your fair share of it.
is there anyone higher up than the vicar that you can speak too to make sure there will be someone to do it? a bishop or something, im sure every vicar has a boss other than the big man upstairs? i doubt they will cancel on you, as its more than just the church that will be lost, its your whole day so i wouldnt worry about it too much. just think in 9 days time, you will be enjoying your day with your new husband! sending you some big hugs xxxx

Thank you everyone for your support. I'm sure it will be fine but could do without this added stress just before the big day. Can't wait for the day to get here now, we've been engaged for over 2 years and I'm so excited about it.
Kesha - no I haven't got insurance - I wish I did though I'm not sure if its too late now. It's silly really, its just something else I never got round to.
Sophie - apparently the bishop is on the case but I don't have any contact details for him. I keep badgering the parish offices everyday! I just hope I hear something before the weekend.
Hope all of your wedding plans are coming together. xx

I will keep on. I have been since we booked the church. It has been an uphill struggle since day one. Only got the order of service approved 4 days before I found out the vicar could not take the service! I'm sure it'll come together in the end. Half glass full and all that lol :)

Have you considered calling other local churches yourself?

I should not worry to much I work for a church and ours would move mountains not to fail to give someone their special day I am sure that yours will be the same to. other vicars and ministers will be there to take his place. maybe say to the church if you are willing to have someone from another denomination lead the service you know a baptist or a Methodist ect

Thank you for your advice I didn't think about other denominations but that is a good idea. I haven't called any other local churches but have been considering it. I don't want to step on any ones toes when they said they are sorting it out. I'll wait until Monday then take it from there. Someone suggested putting out a message on the local radio if they can't find anyone else, quite often people step forward to help out. I obviously wouldn't do that until the very last minute and not 100% sure it would be a good idea anyway.
