Hi , I was wondering if any of you have had to have the chat with the local vicar about your previous marriage. Im divorce my H2b has never been married, and is a Catholic. I know his church wont touch us as I has a church wedding the first time round.I've rang my vicar and he said he will make a decision based on my reasons for divorce. Well I was divorced on unreasonable behaviour not because I was unfaithful but because I moved in with my H2b a year after ex left me after 22 years saying he no longer loved me and we had grown too far apart to save it.. At the time I just wanted it over with but now I am wondering if this will go against me. Has anyone any ideas on what will happen please.

we got asked if we had been married previously and we both hadnt so it was fine... but in the info booklet our church gave us they said they recognised that some marriages failed, but they still viewed marriage for life and without a 'good' cause they would not marry a divorced individual... xx

im getting married in a church i havent been married before but my h2b has and the vicar was lovely and it depends on each indivdual vicar hun just be honest and open when you talk to them, the vicar wanted detail about the previous marriage and ask if i had anything to do with the break up which i didnt so he was happy to marry us xxx good luck hun

i havent been married before but H2B has, our local vicar wouldnt marry us as his divorce was on grounds of seperation, he said if adultery had been committed against H2B he would have married us. different vicars have different views, best just to be honest and open. we are getting married in a methodist church and the minister was lovely, asked lots of questions about previous married and divorce and why H2B thinks this will be different. make an appointment and take it from there. good luck :) x

Hi I have been married before by my h2b hasn't. He is catholic and the church wouldn't marry us because of my previous marriage but my C of E church will marry us. The vicar there recognised that marriages do fail and everyone should be given the chance to do it again. Hope you get it sorted x
Well I just spoke to the vicar and we are going for tea tues 31st. He said we will have an informal chat about my previous marriage and the he will then take some time to consider if he can do it and let us know a week later. He also said that only 3 in 10 remarriages are accepted not to put me off but to make me aware that it may not be possible. So we will go and see there is no harm in trying.

did he divorce u or the other way round if u divorced him there shouldnt be a prob i was in a similar boat i left my ex and divorced him as he was unfaithful to me and was worried they church we wanted wouldnt let us but as i was classed as the innocent party we where lucky.

To answer derangedbride he divorced me in the end. He left 2008 saying he no longer loved me after 22 years and 4 kids took everything from the house and i mean everything even the cutlery lol left us with nothing. I was working full time then and couldnt get legal aid to divorce him. Met H2B in 2010 and by that time house was on brink of repossesion so I moved in with H2B and guess what ex moved back in lol and filed for divorce on grounds of unreasonable behaviour saying if I accepted he would buy me out of house which he did. There was no mention of H2B in divorce papers just said that I was moody and wouldnt participate in conversation with him which is quite ironic as he was the one that left. I would love a Christian ceromony but if its not to be will be quite happy with the hotel we have choosen as an alternitive.

I would stress this to the vicar making out that you did everything you could to make the marriage work but he wouldn't co operate and left leaving you with no choice. Tell him you take your vows seriously but for a marriage to work both parties have to make it work and as he wouldn't do that you were left with no choice and he was the one that divorced you. At least that way he can see that you tried everything you could and would have to be a hard nosed little ******** to say no.

the other alternative which we looked at if the cofe said no was methodist i know alot of my parents divorced friends who have remarried in a methodist church

Just to let you know we went and saw the Vicar on Tue 31st and he rang us on the Friday with great news . He is happy to conduct the service. Cant wait all booked in and still 2 years to go lol.

That is great news and I'm so pleased for you. Is he doing a marriage prep course? We have just been on one and it was rather funny. we didn't learn much what we didn't already know but it was a fun day and free dinner, tea and biscuits.

Thanks, Yes we going to do the prep course nearer the time so far there are 3 other couples for 2013 didnt realise that so many people booked so far in advance till i came on here.
