Im totally heartbroken! My grandfather is in an amazing choir and has been since before i was born. Most of the men in the choir have watched me grow up and so i was honoured when the choir accepted to sing in the church at my wedding next year! Tonight my grandfather called me with the bad news that the guy who does all the bookings didnt pencil us in when we asked them in June and when hes got his events calendar for next year, they have something else booked in for that day! So now im in a situation where im totally stumped, i dont know what we do with regards to music in the church. Do you have music playing when the guests are arriving? If so how many? Is their music when we sign the register? I know these are all such silly questions but because we had other arrangements with the choir i didnt look into any of this. TIA xxx

Sorry to hear about the disappointment.
We had the organist playing for when I arrived, and walked down the aisle, no idea if he played anything when guests were arriving, he also played during communion and signing of the register and when we were walking out for the recessional.

Sry to hear that..
As far as i know its organist and i guess u can ask them to play while ppl wait for u it may depend on the church on how they do it tho.
Theres walking in signing and walking out of course hyms too anything before that i would imagine is ud need to bring that up with the church. X

Sorrry to hear about your dilemma, it so unfortunate wwhen these things happen....
i plan to just have a cd playing whilst i arrive, (soft tunes), then i will hv my aisle music i have two piece guitar and cello act who will sing n play a few songs whilst i sign the register,, then i have a soul song playing as i come out and then thats it....
If u want the organist to play before your arrival, this may cost extra as everything's on a timing with them x

That's such a shame that you can't have the choir that means so much to you. You still have plenty of options however. First it's worth talking to the church, as if you use their organist it may be cheaper. They may also have their own choir who would sing. The organist would probably be there anyway for the hymns. Besides hymns, you need the music for you to walk in to and for you and your husband to walk out to, and then something to entertain the guests while you sign the register. It's nice to have background music before the service, but not essential. You can also use recorded music as long as the church has something to play it on, but I often find live music is better, as people have something to look at as well. Otherwise, you can just look around and see what musicians are around. Many will advertise in local music shops, or just do an internet search for musicians in your area. If you have a university with a music department or a music college nearby you might be able to get young professionals quite reasonably. A string quartet or flute and harp duo works well. A local amateur choir might also be a good option. Some amateur choirs are excellent, and may only ask for a donation. You could probably attend a rehearsal to hear them. I had the worship band that I normally play flute with providing music before the service, then I had a CD recording of myself playing to walk in to. My husband and I both sing in a choir so they covered the signing of the register, and also the walking out.

Just thought I'd update you all, my Granda spoke to the chairman and the booking for the other event was only a provisional booking and no deposit had been paid... sooooo we've confirmed the date with them and we've got them booked for the church again!! I'm so relieved and overwhelmed that we can have them there when a lot of them mean so much to us! Now that's organised we just need to get some songs picked :)
