I know most couples will have their best man, MOH etc sign their marriage document but who did couples without the traditional MOH, bridesmaid wedding party choose? I have two young bridesmaids so was thinking of asking my sister even though she doesn't have an official position in the ceremony.

We're asking our mums because everyone else has a role on the day and it seems unfair that after all their help and support that they just sit there while their husbands, son, daughters and grandchildren all have a role.

One of ours will be oh's grandma. She's getting on a bit and is excited to see her favourite grandson get married, even when she was really ill earlier this year it was the only thing she was looking forward too. She's oh's only remaining grandparent so we want her to feel really special and play a big part. The other were undecided on as yet xx

my h2b couldnt decide between two good friends to be best man, one doesnt want to give a speech the other would, so the one that doesnt want to give a speech will be his witness. My witness will hopefully be a friend I have known since my first day of school, he's like the big brother i never had & means the world to me. But that all depends on if he can afford the flights which we wont know until closer to the time.

I hadn't actually decided this until I read half these comments and started thinking about it properly. OH is choosing his mam and im going to ask my cousin as we've always been close up until last year when we had a blip. (My mams not coming or I would too) Otherwise I'd probably Have asked my cousin to be a bridesmaid so I think she'd like being a part of it since were back on good terms.

I hadn't given this a thought, but think asking the mums is a lovely idea if possible but as my mum has passed away think I will ask my son, not sure who h2b is asking

We have my MIL and my Grandma as they don't have a specific role and would mean the most to them :) x

We haven't decided on witnesses yet, it's something we will discuss closer to the time I think.

I don't want to have the mums, not sure if I want to have the best man and one of the bridesmaids either as I wouldn't know which bridesmaid to chose.

I could have my brother but he is giving me away so I don't know.

I suppose we could have the bridesmaid who doesn't have a child... or my auntie

We had a traditional bridal party but decided to ask my mum and FIL to be the witnesses to give them an important role on the day. You don't need to stick to tradition, have anyone you want x

I'm getting my aunt to do it for me, as she has no children so won't be a parent of a bride or groom ever, and we have always been close. My MOH will be busy conducting the choir at that point so she can't do it. There are two best men, and one will do everything for the service, eg. rings and signing the register, and the other will give the speech.

We're asking mums too...just because they're the important family members that don't really have a role as such so thought it was a nice way of bringing them into it more x

My Sister and H2B's Sister will be witnesses. I was a witness at my Sister's wedding, along with my bro in law's sister. H2B's best mate may be a witness too. He was originally asked to be best man but he changed his mind, so we thought it might be a less 'full on' job for him as we still want him to be a part of the day.
