I'm thinking about having a cheesecake as a wedding cake. It's me and my OH's favourite thing to binge on, we love a good cheesecake :) I've seen pics on the web of tiered cheesecakes done in a wedding cake style.
Our wedding is gonna be a little un-traditional and we like the idea of doing things differently.
We want to 'cut the cake' not by slicing with a knife, but by just digging into it whole with spoons (that's how we always eat our cheesecakes!). We've been advised that cheesecake can't usually be cut into chunks to be handed around, it would have to be sliced due to its consistency, and so would have to have A LOT of cheesecakes to have enough for everyone. So I thought, what if we just let everyone grab a spoon and dig in to the cake? The same way we would be 'cutting' it!
My sister thinks this is a bad idea - she thinks it would get messy, and not everybody might get a chance to have some. I see where she's coming from but I love the idea of it being more fun and kind of a help-yourself free-for-all! It would suit the day (we will probably be having a serve-yourself buffet for dinner).
Do you lot think it might work? Or is it a bad idea??
Thanks in advance!

I love how different it would be to have a wedding cheesecake, but I do feel that it might be a bit too much to expect people to just "dig in". I'm not sure if my dislike of cheesecake is clouding my judgement though??
Maybe an option would be just to have a special cheesecake for you and your groom to enjoy and then a separate one for slicing or even just a normal tray cake for your guests??

Yeah I have to say I love cheesecake but if I went went up to the table to find a half-eaten cheesecake with everyone else having had a bit I don't think could face digging in :/ Could you maybe have a large cheesecake for you and a lot of little ones in jars like g00 puddings? Love the idea of cheesecake at a wedding! x

Cheesecake sounds fab! However im strange when it comes to food if its been messed with i will not touch it. People will take spoons and 'dig' and will go for more than one bite :-/ im a germ-a-phobe though!! Id go with what mrsw says a big one for you and little ones for guests xx

Great ideas ladies thanks! I like the idea of us having our own.. No sharing ;) Little ones in ramikins might be good. I think if we do that though we might as well just have cheesecake for dessert at the meal and a regular cake! Maybe with the top tier CK for me and Himself! Something to think about :)
I wouldn't like that for hygiene reasons. Someone has licked a spoon and put it back in there for another bite. I understand your thinking but not sure it's a great idea for everyone. How about one for you and O.h and a different cake for everyone else?

Yeah double-dipping might be an issue Emily!! Maybe I could do one of those 'Grooms Cakes' (only heard of them yesterday!) as a cheesecake. I'll look into it :)

I'm not keen on everyone digging in, what about double dippers? Gross! How about a cheesecake tower like people have cupcake towers? Then everyone gets a little mini one each. You can also do lots of different flavours too then.

Love the idea of a cheesecake - but wouldn't want to share it.
We are having a 6" top tier just for my me and OH. Then we are having individual miniatures of our cake for each guest.
Looking forward to becoming the 3rd and last Mrs McLauchlan

Yeah I think overall the dipping in idea is maybe not the best. No-one will want to go for it after that one guest with slightly bad breath has double dipped their spoon in, and it means that everyone can only really have one spoonful before it gets a bit gross. Could you ask your baker to do something like this instead?

Yeah I think I'll go for something like that alright, a tower of little cheesecakes and a small top tier whole one! :)

I have to say I'm not too keen on the "digging in" idea.. not sure I would feel comfortable with that. We were looking at cheesecakes as an option but were put off as they have to be kept in the fridge for the majority of the day and just brought out for the cutting of the cake... we didn't want to pay loads of money for a cake that was going to spend most of the day in the fridge!!!

I like the idea of smaller ones for the guests as they still get to share in the special moment for you two.
Good point Flossie. Worth thinking about that!

Good idea Faye, baked cheesecake may be the way to go x

Great idea thanks I'll look into that too! And baked cheesecakes are so rich and yummy :)

I agree with people here digging in would be bad, but the mini ones would be good If cheesecake is you and your partners thing then definitely think that's what you should have as a cake you might regret it otherwise
CommentAuthorSusanM34
Maybe you could have something like Faye suggested and then some cupcakes for the non-cheesecake lovers!
