Inspired by MrsVanderLees Milzilla I'd like to talk about cheesecakes - actual cheese not the sweet type. :-)
Obviously there's no right or wrong - if you don't like it, don't have it. But I really like the thought of it. Not instead of a sweet cake but as an addition - cheese is a must anyway for us and I think stacked up and decorated it's just so much more beautiful than a plain old cheeseboard.
I don't think it has to be that expensive. You just buy 3 different sized (or however many) wheels of cheese and stack them up - put grapes and other pretties (deers and toadstools in my case :D) around and on top and there you go - a beautiful rustic vision.
Or do I imagine this too easy? Who has done it? Who wants to do it?

A friend had one as his wedding cake and it looked stunning ....not for me though as too many of us have dairy intolerances plus i oddly cant bear the smell of any type of cheese .
H2b and his family would think it was a dream come true though x

I would put at least one goats/ewes cheese on it because of dairy intolerances. There's always a choice! Our sweet cake will be all wheat- and dairy free :-)

I once shot a love story between a rubber duckie and a scooby doo bath figure (shampoo in it). It was a huge romance :D
That was before I had a child and more time to pay attention to my sometimes weird brain. :-)

I was thinking about a Cheese Cake on the way to work this morning. We're not having a wedding cake, it seems silly if the reception is afternoon tea, served with several types of cake anyway. Dan and his Dad are cheese mad, I do like a cheeseboard and I know that our friends are partial as a couple of them have help cheese and wine evenings - at which the cheese has been good, the wine not so!
I would do it myself though, rather than buying one. My family would probably only have cheddar types, so a large ring of that. I adore goats cheese, so that would have to be in there, Dan's favourite is Camembert, so we'll have that. There has to be a blue in there too.
if the cake follows cheeseboard rules then there should be: One waxy cheese One blue Cheese One soft cheese (Camembert/Brie) One Goats Cheese One Crumbly Cheese
If only life could be one long tea break

I love those wooden boards they are stacked on. There are silver stands to hire specifically for cheese cheesecakes but that's just not my thing.

When we looked other venues I wanted the glass cake stands with the domes lids, but they're pricey to buy and too much even to hire. The coffeehouse we're looking at now has them as standard, perfect. It also means that the cheese could be covered unti just before needed, but would still look pretty.

These pics are from a beautifully styled wedding on a wedding blog. I love the ribbon of and the second cake is a pork pie one - I don't like pork pie but it shows how many options there are!

I like the idea as an addition to the cake (i love cake too much to have it instead) Any idea how much the rounds cost? I also would have to check with my venue as i wonder if they would be funny about it - given im sure they do cheese platters at about £10pp

I love cheese. This is a must!! X
Here comes the bride......
CommentAuthorLittleMissBossy
That's what I am wondering too - how much it actually costs. DIY not brought in ready stacked.
I have already checked with our venue a few weeks ago and they are fine with it because it's part of the wedding cake. But my venue is so super relaxed - who knows what other venues say.

My venue arent all that relaxed but they have messed me around a bit so i feel i have bargaining power! They said yes to alcohol minatures which i was surprised at as another venue wanted corkage
Might take digging to find the prices - seems a lot of cheese companies sell the ready made cakes so mihgt inflate the prices on the individual cheeses

I love the look of cheesecake 4, like gracelet88 said it colourful. I wouldnt personally have one as I'm not cheeses biggest fan and the ones I do like H2B doesnt, plus I know if I did, my mum and step-dad wouldnt leave the cheese table, lol!x
CommentAuthorNicsquared
Just popped a link on your wall LMB - apparently supermarkets will sell them as rounds fairly reasonably, someone got a 6 tir stack for £120 - 17kg which the companies say will feed 170 people and would prob charge over £300

The silly thing is, both me and h2b are lactose intolerant, so we both get quite ill after a lot of cheese. But some things in life are worth it!!

CommentAuthorLittleMissBossy
Thank you Nic!
Lactose doesn't agree with me either and I can't eat too much cheese. But of all things dairy (I don't like most) I really love cheese. Cheddar disagrees the most with me but I am not overly keen on cheddar so that's not all too bad. I really love Camembert and Brie and a good Stilton. And others. Mmmmm....

M&S prices aren't as bad as I expected: 10kg cheese wedding cake of 5 cheeses for £150 Not as good as the deal you mentioned though Nicsquared! Xx

I dont know what the quality of cheese was like that they were looking at and i bet the ones at M&S are nicer I guess if you went for higher end cheeses at the supermarkets it would be a fair bit more expensive (a 50p increase per 100g would add another £85 to the total :s) Worth going and asking (and sampling) though

I think my plan is a farmers market otherwise I can't afford it especiallt becauseca cheese board is included in our meal (we'd swap it for another dessert).

I've done these for my work, when we've done weddings, we've often had people going for this instead of the typical cheese board. And they are easy to decorate and do. I'm very temped to have one for the evening, as H2B and my Milzilla (think i'm going to steal this idea) love cheese, so would be a great addiction to the buffet. Also Milzilla works in a deli, so can get the cheese for us for cheap :) I guess she has got her uses
