My church is charging £634, thats for all the frills included. I think it's about £450 for basic. Not a good price at all really but I wouldn't have it any other way. Not that there is anything wrong with a registry office but I was brought up Christian so it's what I have always wanted :) In fact I'm not keen on non-religious people getting married in church, but won't get in to that debate now! x

Our church is £540 all in. Didn't look into registry office x

I didn't look into either. We're having a humanist ceremony at our venue in Scotland (where humanist ceremonies are legally recognised). We're paying £350 and we're quite happy with that.
CommentAuthorangelan1986
were going to be paying around £100 for register office, did look into church which was about £400 but after thinking carefully bout why i wanted the church (cos it looks pretty) i decided it was wrong to even consider it. im not religious atall but my h2b is so if he really wanted church i would get married there but hes quite happy with register office

Registry office is definitely cheaper but h2b wants a church wedding so that is how it is. His parents are paying for it though as a wedding gift, so that is £550 we don't have to fork out, lovely in laws to be! :) x
Finally reunited with the love of my life
Never to part again
This Saturday I will finally be Mrs Codling!

OOur church cost about £300.
This was less than the room hire (before even registrar fees!) that a civil ceremony would have cost.
Now a extremely happy German housewife and now a Mother!!!!

We didnt even look at church as both h2b and I believe that to get married in a church when we dont attend one would be hypocritical..... though hopefully will be getting blessed by a family freind vicar after the civil ceremony. I think registry office generally works out cheaper, then between church and civil ceremony in licenced venue depends very much on local area and what you require etc.... Churches have in the past worked out cheaper for members of the congregation at times, i have known church memmbers to get married at next to nothing because the vicar has agreed to marry them at no extra charge because they were long term active members of the congregation at his church.

Hi hun well Ive not checked yet as originally I wanted church, the more I think about it the more im leaning towards a civil ceremony albeit not sure where yet, by the looks of it will be alot cheaper to have it in a registry office, just wanted to big dream, you girls know what i mean dont you? but it would be unfair to marry in church, infact it would be downright hypocritical of me.

Claire you can find some lovely venues now that are licensed for marriage, you dont need to get married in a church to have the big dream. It isnt just down to church or registry office :D Or you could have a low cost registry office ceremony, and then a humanist ceremony at any venue of your choice (as it doesnt have to be licensed) for all your friends and family. There are loads of alternative options.

Registry office was definitely the cheapest for us. (Around £90-£100) We did consider getting married at a venue, but the price just shot up to be the same as a church, possibly more once you included the cost for the room at the venue (Around £200) and then the huge fee (between £400-£500) for the registrar to come out and marry us. Prices might vary around the country I guess - we've seen the prices vary so much in between the different boroughs of London even for a standard registry office ceremony! Church was never an option for us - neither of us are religious. x

Church, it's not costing us anything. I go most Sundays, so when I asked my pastor how much they would want, he said nothing. They're even letting us use the hall for our reception for nothing as well. :)

Registrar coming to our Venue £425 Church would have been £850.
CommentAuthorLeanneDickson
I would normally say registry office but the church I was going to get married in (now doing it at the venue) is free so for my church but normally its the reg. office.
CommentAuthormym72
We're not getting married in a church but we're having a minister perform the ceremony. The cost of making up the marriage schedule by the registry office is £70 (but free if you have a civil ceremony) - but the cost for the registrar to perform the ceremony would have been £335 as opposed to £150 for for minister, so we're saving a quite a bit.
