We are trying to think of favours we can do that are cheap but not cheap looking. I'm quite crafty and we have a while to go so quite a long to get started. I was thinking of jar of honey or jar sweets but I know jars can be quite expensive. Any and lots of ideas would be great please :) thank you xx

Jars don't have to be expensive, every time you buy pasta sauces, dolmio, mint sauce, cranberry sauce, jam, peanut butter ect keep the jars, clean them out, add material on to bit of twine, hey presto, sorted! It's what we've done. No need to be expensive!

    Things that are inexpensive:

-Little envelopes with seeds in them.
-Small paper or fabric bags/pouches with sweets (as mentioned above)
-Small candles (if you buy them at the wholesale price)
-If you're very crafty it can be quite cheap to make your own mini bath bombs which can be wrapped in paper.
-Fortune cookies (if you shop around!)

I like the hot chocolate idea too, but mugs might add up to be fairly costly too, if you have a lot of guests.

I attended a wedding of a friend in France and helped hand make hundreds of little lavender filled pouches and little pouches filled with traditional sweets from Martinique (where her husband is from). They were just squares of fabric tied with a ribbon but they looked very pretty with a little spike of lavender through the ribbon.

Really you can only have two of the below with most aspects of a wedding:

    Budget
    Time
    Quality

One of the above always has to be sacrificed so if you're willing to put in the extra time I'm sure you'll be able to make beautiful inexpensive favours!

you can get favour boxes from the bay - we have found some beautiful ones £14 for 80 and then you can get 80 coloured foil covered heart sweets from there too for £9. with a little ribbon in your colour scheme (ours is £6 for 50meters) so at £29 for 80 guests they are pretty cheap to do x

you can get little jars from asda for 19p which have mint sauce in think, get em wash em out thoroughly and take the labels off if you want jars

if not you can get just a little square of fabric as suggested above and just put something in them that means something to you

How about wine glass charms? They are easy to do and quite cheap. I think it cost me about a tenner to the top table ones and 80 guest ones. Also you can save jars from home or get inexpensive ones from asda.

I've bought tiny purple tie bags and I stuffed them with finely cut cream tissue paper. I've made tags with our names and wedding date on them and they'll have mints in them, rather than sugared almonds (too risky when you have family members with nut allergies). I haven't quite put them all together yet but I'm sure they'll look cute.

We brought 100 candles over a few weeks from the pound shop ( they are about six inches tall, the thick church type ones) and got some clear labels, we printed them up with Thank you for sharing our wedding day with us and the date, then got some clear bags ( the sort you get for putting sweets and cakes in) also from the pound shop you get twenty in a pack, and put them in, a few bits of sparkle, cheap, cheerful and made with love xx

Ive got 75 boxes and ribbons from ebay for £30, then getting a box of black jacks/fruit salads for £5 online which contains 500 sweets amd putting them in, as they are our fav sweets from childhood plus fruit salads match our colour scheme. Just adding a 'thank you' tag myself. Kind of suits our personalities too. Although, we're adding £1 scratchcards to ours aswell so will end up being abit more!

I've struggled with this too, but this is my favourite idea so far:

I've found a site that I can bulk-buy shot glasses from, and the bay of e has some glass paint. Name of guest on front, our wedding date on back. Hey presto, place name and favour all in one!

For the non-drinkers we have small votive candles in jars which we'll do the same thing to (providing the paint will live up to the heat!)

Only thing we hadn't considered was for the younger guests, but we're aiming to keep children under 16 to a bare minimum anyway, will probably fill the shot glass with sweets for them =) x

I had silver heart shape compacts for the ladies .... Sound expensive but I got 30 for just over £30 ( job lots on bay of E ) and but them in organza bags that matched BM's dresses ( bought from jewellers that were closing down 10p each)

I'm seriously thinking of not doing favours. I don't think anyone will miss them and it'll be a saving on the budget.

We are doing a happy box, it's been mentioned on here before

A piece of string to hold thing together
A rubber band to stretch to you limits
A marble to replace the ones u have lost
5p so u can never say your broke
A rubber (or I have used soap) to erase or wash your mistakes away
A candle to brighten any situation
And a kiss to show we care

Favours must have cost us around £50- £60 for 80 guests
