    Hello

I am new to UK Bride, My name is Cat

I am looking to get married in April 2015.

Me and my partner would like to do it for as cheap as we can but would like to put a personal touch to the whole wedding and reception.
Our theme is enchanted winter wonderland. we want a cosy and homemade feel to it all.

I am struggling to find a venue near swindon that is cheap enough to fit our bdget of £5,000.

I would appreciate any help and tips from some clued up brides :)

    Thank you

    Cat

Hi congrats to you both! I'm not sure of the Swindon area but have you considered having it in a masonic hall or a rugby club? X

Hi, congrats on your engagement :-)

DIY is definately the way forward to save money on decor etc, but also a weekday wedding would make it slightly cheaper. It may be more cost effective to get married at a registry office/church then just hire a reception venue, but the cost is generally in the food!

Try Alexandra House in Swindon. We have used it for our works xmas party and it seems a lovely venue. Wouldnt have a clue about price but worth calling them and seeing what packages they can offer.

Congrats on your engagement and welcome to UKbride; like Brilly said; DIY everything you can; look around for things in the sales such as bridesmaid dresses; you can get sample wedding dresses for over half the price of a normal wedding dress :)

Not sure about the Swindon area but try looking for deals; I think april is off season so should be cheaper; also weekdays are generally cheaper then weekends so think about having your wedding in the week :)

For many places April is becoming peak season.

We are also getting married April 2015 and have a Monday booked. Although a Monday in July or August would cost us the same amount, so it may be worth looking at the last week in March to save some pennies x

I'm using h01iday !nn in Cheltenham - but getting married in a registry office (so just having the reception there) and they are only charging me for food. I am having a weekday wedding too, and keeping the numbers down to 30 people. BBQ style food is costing me £300 for 30 of us.
There is no extras in that - purely the room and the food. But DIY a lot and you could have a great day!

Hi and congrats, do you have any pretty village halls near you, they are usually dirt cheap to hire and then you can dec it out as you wish, this is what my friend did and then she got a local company to put up sway style lining (marquee style) where the ceiling was black with twinkling lights like the night sky.

    Hi,
Have you looked into large houses for rent in the Swindon area, or Gloucestershire? You could hire it for the weekend, and do it up how ever you'd like. Put on a buffet, and bring in your own drinks. A decent sound system or set of speakers could provide the music - just plug in an ipod.

You'll probably have to marry in a registery office first though.

Hi we had our local village hall, it is really rather plain but when we had finished it looked beautiful, our friends could not believe it was our village hall, we made bunting had a starlite backdrop it really did look stunning and all it really cost was time and effort xx

If you were considering Marlborough, there's a Old English Inn there (Castle & Ball) that does a package called the Grand Wedding for £999.

Congrats on your engagement. I am not sure on venues in your area. It DIY for decorations and stationary is a must for keeping the price down in ,y opinion. We have saved a fair amount doing this.

If you're doing winter wonderland how about marrying between November and January instead? As long as you avoid Christmas and New Year it's likely to be cheaper. Agree with the others, DIY and a local hall would be good. Also if you're not too bothered about a sit down wedding breakfast you could do a bring and share buffet for the meal, with all of your guests contributing a dish.

I have found that a good amount of research and just outright asking for discounts has saved use over £1000. I was also fortunate enough to win my wedding photography (another £ 1300) but this is just luch and not something everyone will be able to do.i found breaking things down and seeing if I could make or diy for starters works, if not ask friends and family if they could or know someone.

In general look out of the way I.e. not the most popular florist in town to get the best deals!

Pintre $ t is fab for homemade ideas, esp for decorations, have a browse x
