yeah i know..
think they are doing it as a surplus charge per person
i think it is too steep..
got a meeting with them nxt week to go through all details
my contract says i need to take 9 bedrooms on the day.. i am taking all 16 bedrooms (150 a room aswell) so that is my bargaining tool lol

We are getting a choice for each course plus a veggie option, the price will only increase if we choose one of the higher priced menus x I think it's a bit much to pay to have a choice!

Well overpriced. Sorry but this is called 'taking a mickey'
Our venue charges £2pp for a choice, we weren't sure if that was £2pp per course or just pp, but still we don't fancy adding an extra £100 onto our price... although that seems like a bargain if yours charge £500

glas uz all agree.
wedding are expensive as it is
hate how companys/venue think they can put crazy prices onto things just because it is a wedding

We were sneaky and picked a veggie option that everyone would like if they didn't want a roast beef which we picked as our main
Same with our starter, prawn cocktail or tomato soup, can't go wrong

I wish I could say 500£ isn't a lot lol That is 10% of our entire budget Sounds humongous to me just to have a choice.

omg £500 for a choice, our venue is giving out guests a choice of 3 that we choose for each course at no additional cost. Seeming as all food will be preordered weeks before I don't see why they need to charge any extra unless the other meal costs more. £1/2pp sounds ok, but £500, how many guests do you have?

We don't get the option as far as I'm aware, though I'll enquire. I would pay to have a choice though as people I have spoken to seem unhappy with only having the option of whatever we choose and I'm worrying I'll choose something most people hate and will end up in the bin - I feel sick when I think of all that money going to waste. I didn't realise when we booked the venue that we only got one choice for guests - the sample menu looked like it gave choices but apparently that was our choices, even though she said at the meeting we could talk through foods we liked with the chef.
£500 seems too steep though especially when you've filled out their rooms at that cost, they should give you some credit for that surely

Ours is another £2pp to add an extra choice to each course.. So £150 (assuming we have 75 guests) to have 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts xxx

£500?!? I don't even see how they justify that? Surely there's no extra cost to them? Just means they buy less of one set of ingredients cos they have different meals to prepare??
Our venue has 3 choices for each course (plus a veggie option) and they've said we can give our guests a choice of 2 at each course.

I wonder if you could compromise by having easy to prepare second choices - eg soup as second choice for a starter, the main course just a different meat with the same accompaniments. For example, we had a roast dinner style, I would imagine it's a lot easier to have two choices of meat rather than two whole separate dishes.

We had a similar issue.
I have a dairy allergy and my dad is the same. So hubby and all the guests had chicken (we agreed that it was a safer option). We had chicken as the meat option and also offered guests a veggie option which is standard. Then for my dad and I, the venue agreed to make us something totally different, I really wanted the pork Wellington and knew my dad would prefer it to chicken (the venue could've done a dairy free chicken dish but I didn't want it). We also had a totally different dessert as I wanted something different, again the venue could have made what everyone else was having as a dairy free version, I just didn't fancy it.
We did have a very accommodating reception venue and gave me exactly what I wanted. None of our guests however were given a choice, they either had the chicken or veggie meal and of course any allergies just meant things were left off their plate.
Giving guests a choice will create more work for the kitchen so I can understand why they'd charge for it.

Can you offer your guest the choice in advance so the venue doesn't need to order extra food so its still a choice but its made weeks in advance that should allow the venue to drop the price because they won't have as much waste
CommentAuthorAmyH608
Wow that is a lot!! I dont think we are even giving choices lol!! Obvs if some people are veggies we will! But we'll prob just have some sort of chicken with a sauce on the side! :-/
I agree with Coral could you ask people for their choices beforehand maybe! x
CommentAuthorInDreamland
I don't think it's about wastage, it's more to do with the extra preparation required for an additional different dish and the logistics as the timings for different food to cook is different.

Id ask them if the charge still applies if guests pre-pick their meal Got to be worth a ask :) £500 is a lot of money xx

When I first read this thread I didn't think £500 was a lot but ive just worked out what it would be had we went with a different venue and for 70 guests at £4pp it worked out at £280. so £500 is a lot of cash they are asking for.
When we were looking at venues even with the choice guests would have to tell us what they wanted and have it back to the hotel a month prior so they knew what needed ordered etc.
The venue we have went with has a choice of 3 included in the price and the guests don't need to pick before hand the order is taken on the day

The price breakdown of our wedding package confuses me. It seems that if we pick the cheapest of the food items, this keeps us within the package, but if we go for more expensive items, the cost of our wedding package then increases. I think anyway!
