This is a serious possibility!! Where we were meant to be having it, they are moving the goal posts and because out numbers for the wedding breakfast have gone down ( only by a few)they want to put a room hire charge on the bill as well! That in itself would be ok (kind of) if the room charge was mentioned in the wedding pack but it isn't and it has never been mentioned before the email yesterday morning and we paid a deposit last August!
Anyway have been phoning around and we can get married more locally (we went out of area because our local registry office was awful but they have moved now to a rather grand building) but we will have to bring the date forward by 2 weeks so we can get the reception venue as well.
I spoke to the origional reception venue and have told them they either waver this charge which appeared out of thin air or we will be forced to cancel and I will be demanding ALL monies paid to them under the trade descriptions act.....funnily they are going to speak with the manager and call me back!

lol I have made it clear that they have no choice, waver the non advertised fee or we will cancel but I will leave that to the last minute so there will be no chance of getting another booking! I am very assertive when I need to be and she is under no uncertain terms where I am coming from on this. If we had 60 people at the wedding breakfast then we would have got our overnight stay free but we have 41 so we know we have to pay for that. Im not looking for something for nothing, just what has been stated and advertised. How dare they try and do this with little time left to change it. I would rather have the stress of changing everything than pay that charge now out of principle!. She was all nicey nicey on the phone, I would have rather done this face to face but sadly I have a poorly littlie at home so im stuck in so phone it had to be....just wait for her to call back now!

Thats awful that they think they can just add that charge without any mention of it until yesterday and by an email too!! How rude!! But its good to hear your putting your foot down tho...keep us updated when you get the call back. Hope all works out for you x

Go and check out your contract because if you set up the contract for 60 people they may be able to hold you to paying for 60 guests and if you cancel they will say you were in breach of contract as you signed up with 60 guests and didn't meet that then pulled out etc. If yours is anything like ours we have to pay regardless of if we get married there or not now because of the contract and even if 20 turn up we still have to pay for the numbers that were agreed at the time of booking.

Oh crap. Not good. Lets hope that the stink will make them come to some kind of compromise but just check your contract out first before you finalise anything as the last thing you want is a huge bill. They may do something for a goodwill gesture to keep you happy.

I had a phone call an hour ago to say as a gesture of goodwill they would wave the fee! I laughed and told them there was no gesture of goodwill at all, they knew they were in the wrong so dropped the attempt to rip me off! The bottom line is the charge has not been advertised anywhere so therfor there is no charge they can put on that will stand. lol I don't think she wants to deal with me again! lol x

xjoX We havent specified a figure on contract, we told them we would be looking at 40 for the wedding breakfast (and that puts us over at registry office) and 90 for the evening but then said we had to cater for 80% so I put down catering for 70 peole instead. Im not going to pay for 100% if I don't have to. Anyway we got news that 5 people couldnt come to the day so advised the reception when they started talking about this charge. We have now filled those spaces again but it made no difference, they still wanted the £200!!

lol I told her we had another venue on stand by which is true but then I would have had to change the date, re do our intention to marry as it would have been a different registry office AND change the rings as they are engraved on the outside........didn't tell her that though lol but it was something I was prepared to do just to prove a point! Too many people gazump us brides to be and I can't stand it, if someone finds some strength to stand up for what is right by reading this then im a very happy bunny xx

awww we should only have 30 day as that is the maximum for the registry lol but I will deal with that on the day, perhaps everyone can sit on eachothers laps lol as for the evening well we have no family going at all so that keeps the numbers down. I don't think my mum knows we are getting married! xx
