Do I need to send new photographs when I'm changing the name on my passport or just the marriage certificate?

I changed mine just before the wedding and I needed a new picture and it had to be counter signed. I think they've changed it so all new applications need a new picture x

I have a few friends keep theirs in their maiden names, due to the cost of changing their name (it's the cost of a new passport!) I will also be doing this as well. Just have to remember to book flights in maiden name!

I would imagine they would need a most recent photograph as well as the marriage certificate. My colleague said to me to request a copy of our wedding ceertificate when we get married so that we have a spare in case of problems! x

Thanks girls :) I made some copies of our marriage certificate thinking I could send them away for these things but for both passport and driving licence they wont accept photocopies, only the original document :( I know what you mean Mrs THurley 2B, the price of a passport is scary now. If I didnt need mine I would have waited until it expired and then changed my name when I'd have to pay again anyways x

I've not done mine yet so still travelling in my maiden name. Will change it when it expires. I refuse to pay for a new one until I really have to.

You will need a new photograph however counter signing is only necessary if your appearance has changed a lot since your last passport photograph. Mine did not require it as I have the same hair colour and style as my original picture.

Because my passport expired in July I had to get a new one so I actually went for a post-dated passport which meant mine would be in my married name (can be done up to 3 months before wedding) the catch is that the passport is not valid until the date of the wedding and so I cannot yet apply for my ESTA for honeymoon until the day after the wedding. Thankfully there is plenty of time between wedding and honeymoon that this is not an issue. In order to get a post-dated passport in married name it does have to be validated through a form signed by the person officiating the wedding which again for us was no issue. Sent off the form and got new passport inside a week. Very happy though odd seeing my new name.

I changed my passport but not until after the honeymoon. We booked the honeymoon in my maiden name. I did new photos but didn't need them countersigned.

My passport is valid until 2018 so not changing it until then, everything will just be booked in my maiden name xx

I only got a new passport as I'd lost mine at some point during our engagement, as I wanted to go abroad for my hen! So because I knew I wouldn't have had it long before we got married, I waited until nearer the time and got mine post-dated too. The woman at the post office said I needed to get mine signed though. Not really sure why. She also didn't even know you could post-date it,so that didn't fill me with confidence while processing my application!

I need a new passport with my married name cause I'm applying for my Spouse visa (UK). Here in Brazil it's soooooo much more complicated to get a new passport :(

I'm going to just keep it in my maiden name until renewal like most of the other brides because its not worth the price to me :)

And it might prompt check in to notice your newly married and its your honeymoon for free upgrades :)

I called the passport office and they said I had to send a new picture even though my current one is recognisable :( It seems like thats the policy now xx

When my oh and I renewed our passports, I asked them to send the passports to my work. Nothing was mentioned about my oh's passport and his was sent to MY work place no problems at all. But mine never arrived. When I asked them, they said that they needed permission from my employer that they were ok to send the passport there. I told them that although this is my place of work, and that my OH's passport got sent through with no problems, why is this being said to me. Got no reason other than mine got sent to one passport office and his got sent to a different one!! I finally got my passport 2 weeks before going on holiday, even though I sent it 3 months in advance. (This was when we had the severe passport delays) and my OH got his 2 weeks previous to that.

So make sure that if you get your passports delivered to an alternative address, such as work, make sure you send a letter of confirmation from your employer that you have permission to have your passport sent there.

It seems a bit of a waste of money however I just love the idea of all the romantic stamps from our honeymoon being in a passport with my married name on it!

I guess we'll see how it goes nearer the time, and whether the money is needed for something else instead!

I've already booked our honeymoon in my maiden name so no going back now!

I love the whole romantic idea of travelling to your honeymoon in your married name but for me it seemed like such a waste of money to change it when I will have 3 years left on it when we go on our honeymoon. You will have a ring on your finger to prove you're married, you don't need a bit of ink on a piece of paper.

My passport expires the month before we get married. Can you get it changed to your married name before you actually get married? It seems a bit silly to get a new passport in my maiden name only to have to get it changed almost straight away after. And I'd love to have my honeymoon booked in my married name!

You can change it three months before the wedding there's a form you need to send along with it signed by the minister/registrar, the passport is then not valid until the wedding day and the time you have left on you passport is added on to it too so you will have 10 years and however many months xx
