We booked our wedding and have had 2 meetings with the vicar, a few weeks ago he rang and said that unfortunately due to family commitments he will not be able to officiate our wedding but his collegue will be doing so instead. This was fine, until i rang his collegue as instructed and spoke to his wife who said that she would get him to ring me when he got in. The next day he hadn't rang so i contacted him again and he was quite abrupt and said that he would contact me when he needed to. Later that afternoon he rang and left a message for me to call him!?!
I rang and he said that i din't need to speak to him as he was going to e-mail me any details i needed.
So i get the e-mail which gives me a place and date to meet with him, only for him to cancel the 1st time then change meeting venue 2nd time. . . So we are supposed to be meeting with him saturday morning, but so far i have already decided that i don't really like him, if we don't get on, can we request a different vicar????

Can't wait to become Mrs Hardwicke. . .

It depends on how they work it. The church we get married in is an open church and has several vicars that perform the wedding in the church. Other will just have one and you either like them or lump them. I think you would have to have very good reasons why you would want to have someone else and I don't think because you don't like them and they changed the meeting details will be enough even though I agree with you that you should be able to feel comfy with them as they are taking part in the biggest day of you life.

As XjoX says, it depends however many other vicars there are that officiate in that area. If you're set on the church, ask if there's another vicar. If you're willing to change to find a vicar with a sunnier disposition, look into the surrounding parishes :)

If you aren't happy, ask your original vicar if there are other alternatives.

I have a similar situation, our vicar - who has resided here for 18 years - is moving to a different parrish, so I received a letter from him saying that he wouldn't be conducting our service but giving the name of the person that would be. I'm gutted, I know our vicar personally, he has been very active within the community and schools, I'll admit I shed a little tear... I'm going to try and arrange a meeting with my stand in, but in all honesty, he's got pretty big boots to fill.

I think you can change vicar, you just have to pay travelling costs. When we looked at getting married in my H2B parish, the vicar there explained that if we felt we had a connection with another vicar, we could ask if they could officiate our servicem but it would incure travelling costs.

I'd see how it goes on Saturday, you never know he could have just been having an off day and if it dosent go well, then I'd be honest and say that you don't feel a connection with him and what are the options...
