I'm so excited I need to tell people...I've had my hotel booked for about 6 weeks where I was having my reception and civil ceremony but while sitting watching the grand wedding at Westminster Abbey I text my mum saying I really fancy a church wedding now. So I went to my local church on saturday morning and had it booked by 10.30am! Now i'm even more excited, as I never thought I was too bothered about the church. I think my dress needed a church aisle to walk down too.
I was getting the civil ceremony room for free in with my reception package price, but the registrar was going to cost me around £400 and I was going to get chair covers for the civil ceremony room and decorated which would have been around £200. While the church is currently (before the price increase in december) £520 for the service and the choir is £80, so that pretty much even's itself out and I was going to have a car anyway. The only extra it is going to be is to pay the church to allow our videographer to film the service which is £180.
So for my fabulous church where I will also get all my lovely photo's its only going to work out £180 extra which I don't think is too bad. Not as grand as the beautiful Westminster Abbey but just perfect for me.

    Congratulations!
I have managed (this weekend) to convince my oh that we should get married in my 'family' church where my siblings and I all got christened and where my parents got married. This is instead of choosing the church that was nearest our reception venue. I am very happy, so know how it feels to get what you really want!

Aww thanks ladies, glad you got your 'family' church Nini, I was going to go to the church me and my brother and cousins where all christened at but they no longer allow filming of the ceremony and it is very popular so i was unlikely to get there and the church I'm getting married at now is more modern as it was built in 1818 and I love it whereas the family church is around 1600's.
Ashill - I'm so glad I watched the wedding it made me realise I wanted a church, you do you have a link to your church?

Can't you change to a church? In the end I'll have only lost about £40 deposit on the registrar as it was only a provisional as i couldn't give notice until a year before the wedding x

Yeah I am wanting a church too, never being married before and I am religous so needed a church. Its is cheaper than a civil ceremoni in a hotel. It was going to cost me £300 for hire of room and then £300 for registra and then £100 for chair covers. WHere as church and chior are costing me £450 all together... So much cheaper and lots better!

Hope you have a great day and well done X
