hiya. If it's a civil ceremony then there can be nothing religeous in any part of your ceremony, readings and lyrics of songs included.
Your registrar should be able to give you a book of suggested readings as inspiration, and depending on which of their packages you're going for depends on how many readings they'll allow you (I think it also depends on the length of them as well) as the registrar only has a certain amount of time to conduct your pre interviews and the actual ceremony.

I got fed up of picking songs and the looking carefully at the lyrics to find that it had a words we couldn't use so my friend who is in a quartet is kindly playing for me

Check with your venue though if they supply someone to switch on a cd etc at the relevant times or whether they want one of your guests to do it.

    Hi Hun,

I am also having a civil ceremony in a hotel, and we are having 2 readings read by my niece and my step dad, but like ClareE said they can't be religious, we are also having a pianist play our chosen songs throughout the ceremony x

    Hi Lisa
My sister had a non-religious civil ceremony in a beautiful manor house. For the processional she had Pavane's Faure (beautiful) just on CD. For the recessional at the end we walked out to Holst's Planets 'Jupiter'. I take the credit for them as I suggested them (we're both really into our classical music).
She had a beautiful reading ...............something from Captain Corellies Mandolin.

There's a thread on here of beautiful non-religious poems and readings. I'll try and find it for you and bump it xxx
