Its makes me so mad that they force us to do it.

I'm so mad. How many of you girls think that it is disgraceful that in a 'free' country we are then forced to give all our personal details to the government. They are even wanting to know who visits your house over night etc. Surely this invades our human rights? Well they can go get screwed if they think I'm going to tell them!

I don't see the harm in it to be honest, it's useful info in years to come, having been researching family trees i find its the most helpful source. Don't really see what else its any good for though!

But what the hell has it got to do with anyone who comes and stays over night at your house and what sex they are? Sorry but that is going beyond a joke.

I think it's stupid that we're forced to fill it in. But seeing the other side of the argument - my dad is trying to trace his family tree and I suppose the census info is kept on record so at least it'll make it easier for anyone in the future tracing their family.

It just makes my blood boil the way that they can demand information from us whenever they want it. I don't want to be part of it. I don't want people being able to trace me. I went into foster care for a reason and shouldn't have to have my information published where other people can find it. It shouldn't matter what colour I am and they can check the council tax to find out who lives in the household. Why waste £270 million of our taxes just to make us fill in forms that they already know the answers to half of it anyway? They can't even keep our details safe once they have it.

i dont think all the details they ask for are that important at all, some of the questions i think are quite irrelivent (spelling) and as for asking if anyone else will be staying at my house on 27th march????? erm... let me look in my crystal ball and see!! if my friend from scotland phones me the week before and asks if they can come and stay do i have to phone the census and tell them i have given false information? haha i think it is a joke, they want to know for population reasons well why cant we just say theres 6 people that live here and their ages are.....

21st October 2011 will be the best day of my life!!!

i know its very ott i wouldnt mind if it was just the normal how many live in your house, ages of everyone etc.
i saw my htb looking through it earlier and he looked abit weird he said after a while that on the forms he has to put that hes not related to my oldest 2 kids even though hes not there bio dad he is in our eyes and the kids so having to declare them as non relatives bummed him out i think although he did say that next time the census comes he can say they are his step children lol.
who stays around your house is a daft question what if you have a new man every week that could take awhile haha x

What I find bleedin' ridiculous about the 2011 census is that they're not doing it themselves like they have done previously. Instead they're commissioning Lockhead Martin (the arms manufacturer) to conduct the census. And they're paying them a lot of money.
Having said that, I do know someone who works for LM and he said they do have a department that specialises in this kind of statistical research. But still- the government is forking out a needless amount of money for something they're too lazy to do themselves.

I was going to boycott on this reason, but the Pagan community is using this opportunity to show just how many of us there are in the country. Although my religion is none of the government's business, its one method to get us closer to getting us recognised as a religion (as opposed to devil worshippers or incense burning kooks).

    Why the census matters:
The census is the official count of every person and household in Scotland. It is held every 10 years and helps to plan our future public services. Please include everyone at this address. It shouldn't take long and you can fill it in here.

As a householder, you have a legal duty to fill in this questionnaire. If you don't, or you supply false information, you may be fined up to £1,000.

"The Household Questionnaire has 13 questions about the household and up to 35 individual questions for everyone who usually lives at the address. There are also questions for anyone else who is staying at the address on the night of 27 March whose permanent or family home is elsewhere."

    whats the point? :|

Lets all go out ALL night on 27th, then no-one is staying in your home lol

I dont think you should be forced, I suppose its just the way its always been done to complete the census so that the population is monitored etc....

I think in this day and age though, it shouldnt be forced to be completed by individuals but I think if you are willing to complete it then so be it. x

If you don't want schools, hospitals, public transport etc.........

Its not telling them anything they already don't know really. The only question I can't think of a use for is the overnight visitors- but then that is also used to highlight holiday cottages so can have a localised use. Most countries have one.

I agree with it, but mainly so that they have a chance to see just how many people are *really* out of work, or have a disability - rather than just the number who can stand to jump through the ridiculous hoops the claims and welfare systems make them.... and as others have said, so they can see how many people really are of a particular religion, rather than just assuming most of us are CofE because we got christened when we were babies... stuff like that.... ( yes, h2b will be putting Jedi again this year - le sigh!)

And yes, it is stuff they have asked before, but if they don't keep asking, they won't have up to date figures I guess. In an ideal world it would be nice if they could gather the info from other departments who already should know this stuff, but hell it ain't just the government guilty of annoying repeating of questions - how many times have you rung say a mobile phone company or credit card company and had the electronic voice ask you to key in your phone number or account number, only to have the human who eventually answers ask you for the same info again?

It is so so so important that you complete your census forms. The Government uses the statistics to look at trends in population. It's what they use to determine where and how to spend our money. Without these statistics we wouldn't have enough public services like police, schools, doctors, hospitals, roads, shops, houses etc etc etc everything we need. Even with the statistics from the last census it is difficult enough to get it right..can you imagine the chaos if they had no statistics to base their provision of services and spending on ??? The statistics are anonomised for 100 years and actual names and details are only then made public. They cannot sell the info to anyone for 100 years it is TOP SECRET. Please fill out your census forms it is very important.

i think its awful that we need to do it they have alot of the information from the electorol roll and council they have who lives where and where we work if all done through tax and national insurance so they all ready know that stuff they are just really nosey. what happens if all that info gets into the wrong hands someone can fake who they are and get a new identity not very good when u look at it all that way :-( x

It is COMPULSORY!!! If not filled in non compliance officers will visit your home and give you a caution. If after the caution you still don't fill it in you could face court and a possibly fine.

Not trying to scare anyone. Just making you aware.

I personally don't have a problem with the census as I too like tracing my family tree and hope one day my kids, grandkids etc. can do the same. Yes I do agree 1 or 2 of the questions are unnessary but at least they are not asking bank details, pin numbers or what side of the bed you sleep on. xxx

I don't see the issue here although I'm very pleased I read this post as I disn't realise it was a HAVE to do! As for the 27th March questions although I haven't read mine it dies say at the front to complete the questionnaire on or asap after the 27th so that's why I put it to one side & thought I'd deal with it later. Better make sure I don't lose it then seeing as I'll be in trouble if not completed x

and just for fun... in 200 years time your descendents are trying to figure out how you lived your life and what was going on at that time!!

we will be on honeymoon after the 27th so i've already done it...but there is a good length of time after that date to complete it...we had someone from the Census office come and talk to us at work and she said at first they will come to see you to see if you need help in completing it and only after they have tried everything possible to help you complete it would go down the line of litigation.

It is an important document as they take the info we provide and then can make plans re education, medical services, transportation etc for the future. You have a legal obligation to complete it and it should be done either on or as soon as possible after 27th March. This may be the last one and as Melvis said -its just a snap shot of one day in our country. It doesnt take much time so please complete it.
