So, we are getting married abroad and having a party when we get back. OH has invited quite a lot of extended family we don't see too much. I thought we had an unspoken agreement that there wouldn't be any children there, however! One member of the family has rsvp'd for herself and partner, their 2 adult children and partners, plus the grandchild (2 yo). So I've said to OH that he needs to tell her that the 2yo isn't actually invited but now he's saying well what reason can I give as 'we don't want kids there' isn't a valid enough reason apparently.
What would you say to them?

I think it is valid that you just don't want kids- it's a time for adults to enjoy themselves without having to constantly keep an eye out on kids, especially as they are that little then if it is an evening party, surely they would be in bed anyway?

Well you would think so, we've put 730 so don't expect most people to be there till 745 / 800, it's not like a holiday where you can keep them up to whatever time and let them sleep in the buggy.

I would just be honest - tell them that unfortunately you were not planning on children attending and you'd appreciate it if they could make child care arrangements for the little one. You may find the child's parents may not come (on the off chance that they have no options for care). Hopefully they are kind enough to respect your wishes.
Personally despite how much I love my baby girl I know I would be grateful for a "night off" to let my hair down and I know both grandparents would relish the chance to babysit and spend some time with her.
